Who is the first impostor?

The Gospel Reading today states the following:
“Sir, we remember that this impostor while still alive said,
‘After three days I will be raised up.’
Give orders, then, that the grave be secured until the third day,
lest his disciples come and steal him and say to the people,
‘He has been raised from the dead.’
This last impostor would be worse than the first.”

Who is the first impostor?
 
my lectionary says, “lest this imposture be worse than the first” meaning the act of being an imposter, the first act being the claim to rise in three days, the second act being to fake a resurrection with the collusion of the apostles.

The “Man Jesus” impostor is the first one in the Pharisees eyes.

The “Risen Jesus” impostor would be worst then the first.
 
I think that an impostor is a person, while an imposture is an action. While they regard Jesus as an impostor, the second imposture refers to an expanded action as NotWorthy notes.
 
It would appear that they are saying the the last deception would be worse than the first. This is how it is rendered in several translations.

(Matthew 27:64 NASB) “Therefore, give orders for the grave to be made secure until the third day, otherwise His disciples may come and steal Him away and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.”

(Matthew 27:64 RSV) Therefore order the sepulchre to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away, and tell the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last fraud will be worse than the first."

(Matthew 27:64 KJV) Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.

(Matthew 27:64 NKJV) Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ So the last deception will be worse than the first."
 
Yes, the Jewish authorities certainly thought that Jesus was an impostor, or else they would have followed him instead of fighting them all the way.

But, even as an impostor, they knew he was trouble.

Then, if they thought that the Apostles could create a hoax about the impostor rising from the dead, then they knew it would create even more trouble.

Hence,
“First impostor” - The Jews’ thoughts of the man, Jesus.
“Second impostor” - What the Jews thought this hoax would be.

Go back and re-read the Gospel. As was noted, but seemingly ignored by some subsequent posters, the word is actually imposture, not impostor. So, what is meant is that what they perceived would be a fake resurrection would be a worse imposture (action) than the first, which was Christ claiming to be God.
