My friends and I have been having a discussion on who the first pope was after the Roman Catholic Church was formed as an official organization? I have researched it and have my own conclusion and was wondering what you thought.

Without knowing your conclusion, I cannot comment upon it. All I can tell you is that Peter was the first pope. While it is true that he may not have been called a “pope” and that the Catholic Church looked far different than it does today, Peter’s job of teaching, sanctifying, and governing the Church established by Jesus Christ is the same as that of Pope Benedict XVI today.
