I first thought it was Mary, Mother of God. But now I heard it’s Israel and the 12 stars represent the tribes. Which is it and why? My Catholic Youth Bible even states that it’s Israel.
I think so too!Personally, I think the principal meaning of the woman in Revelation 12:1 is Mary.
Maybe I read this wrong, but I need a little clarification: If the verse(s) can be related to Israel, shouldn’t the whole thing be related to Israel? instead of, “this verse fits with Mary, and the one after can fit with Israel”?Because the Woman in Revelation 12 is such a four-way symbol, different aspects of the symbol apply to different ones of the referents. The crying out in the pain of childbirth does not refer to Mary, but to Israel, which underwent the emergence of the Messiah in great trauma.
Israel is a Type of Mary, so it can apply to both, but more perfectly some.Maybe I read this wrong, but I need a little clarification: If the verse(s) can be related to Israel, shouldn’t the whole thing be related to Israel? instead of, “this verse fits with Mary, and the one after can fit with Israel”?
Hello Todd,Catholic Answers apologist Jimmy Akin discusses this at some length here. He says that the woman of Revelation 12:1 actually has 4 meanings: Israel, the Church, Eve, and Mary.
Personally, I think the principal meaning of the woman in Revelation 12:1 is Mary.
I agree that she is all the things from above, but Mary is very easily seen in this woman.I’d like to hear from a Catholic please.
You can see that the male child is Jesus look at Revelation 19:1512:5 that she gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.
Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
Jesus Christ is the King of kings and Lord of lords. Obviously this male child is Jesus and thus the woman is Mary.KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
Mary, Jesus and Satan all representative in both places.Genesis 3:15" And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."
Hello Mark,I’d like to hear from a Catholic please.

Luke 1:35 The holy spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
you can also look at 1 Kings 8:10Exodus 40:34 then the cloud **overshadowed **the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
