This is not the same as LDS right? If I remember this was one of those break off groups.

It would not be accurate to call them a break off group. When Joseph Smith died, his successor was(is) a huge debate. Most RLDS(now Community of Christ) never followed Young in the first place.

Back in the 70’s RLDS went to court with Utah LDS over which was the orginal, and RLDS won.

However, Joseph Smith did teach Utah theology.

Joseph Smith said there are many Gods.
Code:
"Hence, the doctrine of a plurality of Gods is as prominent in the Bible as any other doctrine. It is all over the face of the Bible . . . Paul says there are Gods many and Lords many . . . but to us there is but one God--that is pertaining to us; and he is in all and through all" (History of the Church, Vol. 6, page 474). "In the beginning, the head of the Gods called a council of the Gods; and they came together and concocted a plan to create the world and people it." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, p. 5).
Joseph Smith said the Trinity is three gods.
Code:
"I have always declared God to be a distinct personage, Jesus Christ a separate and distinct personage from God the Father, and the Holy Ghost was a distinct personage and a Spirit: and these three constitute three distinct personages and three Gods." (Teachings of Prophet Joseph Smith p. 370).
Joseph Smith said God was once a man.
Code:
"God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted Man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens...I say, if you were to see him to-day, you would see him like a man in form -- like yourselves, in all the person, image, and very form as a man....it is necessary that we should understand the character and being of God, and how he came to be so; for I am going to tell you how God came to be God. We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity, I will refute that idea, and will take away and do away the veil, so that you may see....and that he was once a man like us; yea, that God himself the Father of us all, dwelt on an earth the same as Jesus Christ himself did." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, p. 3).

Joseph Smith was also interested in the second coming of Jesus Christ. So much so, that he tried to peg Christ’s return to a particular year – 1891. Smith said, “It is the will of the Lord that those who went to Zion, with a determination to lay down their lives, if necessary, should be ordained to the ministry, and go forth to prune the vineyard for the last time, or the coming of the Lord, which was night – even fifty-six years, should wind up the scene.” (The History of the Church, vol II, page 182).

That’s interesting I knew that the RLDS owned the site of the Temple in Kirtland Ohio correct? Which is supposedly necesary for Christs return. How do LDS reconcile this failed prophecy with what the Bible teaches about false prophets?

Actually it’s a Temple that is yet to be built in Missouri. The dedicated property is not owned by the LDS yet either but they think that when it needs to happen then a Temple will be built there and those who are called there will get to be first to see Jesus. They don’t seem to have problem with prophets only being right part of the time.

That’s right because the Garden of Eden is in Missouri…

But the RLDS still owns the first Temple in Kirtland Ohio if I remember correctly.

Josepn Smith also failed the prophecy of the destruction of the United States I think.

yeah, they don’t seem too concerned with the Kirtland Temple. They feel it served it’s purpose and they now have plenty of others. some think the destruction of the US Government (rather than the country) is yet to occur, others think it was conditional and the conditions not met and yet some think it never was prophesied. Most don’t care about Joseph Smith Jr.'s unfulfilled prophecies. (or those of other LDS prophets for that matter) They think the have the ones they need and the others aren’t important.
