Who is us and our?

In the Old Testament God says, “Let us make man in our image” Two questions. Who is “us” and “our”? And how can God who is completely unlike a human have an image to use as a template to create man? Does God resemble a human in any physical way? I don’t think so, but…
 
The image and likeness is not physical, or was not until Jesus was born. In my opinion, the image and likeness consists in our ability to love and all that is implied in that (giving, forgiving, cooperation, soliidarity, communion, helping, respect, …).

In the original context, the ‘we’ is probably a reference to the heavenly court.

In Semitic myth, the highest among the gods, El, was imagined as being a king in his court surrounded by the other gods. So basically you have a council of deities, with the chief god being the one in charge. The Israelites had a similar idea of God (Yhwh/Elohim/El): a chief God/king holding a council with heavenly beings. So “Let us make man in our image” is essentially Yhwh Elohim voicing the deliberation of the heavenly council.

Now the Christian notices the plural forms in Genesis and sees it in a prefigurement of the Trinity - one God in three persons.
