If Lily persisted, she will have discovered that the readings are repeated in English.
Lily knew they would be, but Lily doesn’t see any point in having 'em in Latin to begin with if they’re just going to be read out again in English … but horses for courses, I’ll probably be told soon enough that there’s a perfectly good reason for it 😉

In the TLM, are the readings usually in latin? Is there a homily? Tim
At all TLM’s, the Epistle and Gospel are read at the altar (epistle and gospel sides–you’ll see the priest go from one side to the other). Then, the priest reads the epistle and gospel from the pulpit in English. There may or may not be a sermon in daily Mass. Sunday Mass always has a sermon. It’s called sermon, rather than homily, in the TLM.

Ahh, Thanks, Isn’t it terrible a cradle Catholic to be so ignorant of the old Mass. Tim

Not really ignorant. You probably are too young to have been to one. They were not very common before the Motu Proprio. BTW, just to clarify, at the altar, the epistle and gospel are read in Latin. The only English is at the pulpit.

Three of my kids will watch it tonight with us, one being an alter server. My oldest will miss it due to school function. I’m trying to explain what, how and why to them so they can appreciate it more. Thanks for your help, Tim

I cried. I never thought I would see this day come true in my lifetime. I honestly figured I would have to be in Heaven to see the TLM become available for all that desire it again.

Now just praying for our area and the TLM being available to us.

I think Erie already has one. I don’t know how close you are to Erie.

Smack in the middle from two now. Both of which are 45 miles in each direction. With 7 to transport the youngest is 3yo it becomes a matter of logistics some weeks. Until today there was only the one. Trying to figure how to get to one or the other.

Well, maybe since another TLM has already been added, more might be on their way!

Wait…
I thought they abrogated the second confiteor…
That has become a topic of discussion among some Latin Mass loving friends of mine who lived through the period, originally. They neither rmember the second confiteor being employed in 1962 nor it being in the books at that particular time. Yet, apparently, it is also used at the St. John Cansius TLM for some reason.

The second confiteor is not in the 1962 Missal. But the FSSP uses it anyway. I am not sure if it is optional or not. All I do know is that we at Mater Ecclesiae do not use it.

Liturgical abuse?

I highly doubt that EWTN, which is as outspoken against liturgical abuse as anyone would televise a Mass incorporating such an abuse.
What if they didn’t know any better or thought it was alright?

Frankly, I can point to minor delicts with some frequency from their Irondale Mass which is televised, particularly when they have guest celebrants. Why would this necessarily be any different, therefore?

Mybe because they had a month to plan it? I’m sure it doesn’t take a month to look up the proper rubrics. Unless, of course, you are suggesting that the FSSP normatively engages in liturgical abuse (in which case, you should substantiate your claim with evidence).

I’m an idiot–I DVR’d yesterday’s Mass. Somehow I had it in my head that that would be the TLM, I guess I got confused on the date. 😊 I felt wierd deleting it, for some reason, like I was being disrespectful. 🤷

Anyway, I set the DVR for today’s and plan on checking it out tomorrow or the next day. I’ve never been to or seen a TLM, so I’m very interested!

We recorded the morning live broadcast–I was having a minor surgical procedure done. Blame the technical difficulties on Hurricane Humberto–it was cats and dogs mid-morning here. Not only did it interfere with the EWTN feed going up to the satellite, it knocked out our DTV signal.

However, we’re watching and taping the re-broadcast right now. I had fast-forwarded this morning’s tape, and I know about where the glitches started–soon…watching…watching…watching…

No glitches.:clapping:
