That is one of my all-time favorite books. :+1:t3:Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird.
My spouse used to tell the story of not reading the book, but using Cliff notes to write the report. Would have done ok except dear spouse got the sex of the main character wrong.Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird.
I didn’t want to put all the details, but yes, they were heavily edited, according to Rose both by her mother and herself and then also by editors There are also many things that were edited in to make things easier for children.Hi Xanthippe,
Actually, her daughter Rose edited her stories for her, so that they would be more geared for children.
It was thought that as they were written, they would have been too realistic in terms of the hard realities of pioneer life at the times that Laura lived them, so in a way, you could say that they were “toned down a bit” so that children could read them.
I don’t want to go off-topic here, but I had the chance to visit the reproduction of her home site/cabin on the site where she was actually born, up here in Pepin, Wisconsin. It’s a really beautiful area.
There is a museum in the area too, with different items from the different home sites where Laura and her family lived over the years. It’s a fun place to visit.
