Maybe I should have worded my question differently. What about, your favorite person involved in evangelizing and teaching the faith?
That’s easier to answer, because there are people who do a great job evangelizing or teaching in some way, but one doesn’t know beans about their personal holiness, and for all I know they could have some scandal going on in their personal life that only comes out later, like Fr. Corapi.
When Mother Angelica was alive, I would have said her.
More recently I have a great respect for Fr. Heilman. I do not agree with him on everything (I think for example he makes way too big a deal out of communion in the mouth vs. in the hand) but he does a marvelous job of getting people to pray the Rosary and teaching them about getting indulgences for the dead. For those two things alone he deserves cookies, in my book.
I have respect for him currently because he is running a 54-day novena for Pope Francis, with no commentary on Francis being a good Pope or bad Pope or any criticisms, etc. although I strongly suspect that Fr. Heilman, as someone who leans more towards the traditional mindset, is not on the Pope Francis bandwagon. Yet he has encouraged many people to pray for the Pope, and without saying anything like “the Pope has everything so wrong, so he needs our prayers.” I could, if I wished, wonder about the sincerity of such an approach, since praying for the Pope is quite popular among some segments of Catholics, so perhaps this is for marketing purposes…but in either case the Pope is getting prayed for and the Pope can always use our prayers. I am making sure to also pray for Pope Emeritus Benedict, that he also be blessed, protected, guided, and helped with whatever he needs.
