Who is your favorite New Testament figure?

If you could spend an hour with only one figure from the New Testament, other than Jesus and Mary, who would that be? And why?
 
St Paul, my path to faith has some similarities to his and I’d enjoy discussing that with him.
 
Mary Magdalene. I’d love to hear about her life story and her love for Jesus 👍
 
St. John, as he was the only disciple to stand at the Cross of our Lord as He endured the Passion for us. While little is said of him, this action speaks volumes.
 
The Anna of the temple. She lost her husband and had no children. Yet instead of blaming God and turning bitter, she ended up devoting herself to prayer in the temple and was one of only 2 that saw the infant Jesus when Mary and Joseph brought infant Jesus into the temple
as the son of God. God bless her example to turning to God in her sorry and seeing Jesus in the temple!
 
S. John, inasmuch as he had the closest relatioship to our LORD, and laid his head on His bosom, and maybe even held His head!

If not him, then S. Joseph.

I like St. Peter the best. He was the most human, funny sweet and childlike. He totally believed in Jesus, but kept making mistakes about him too. Sometimes I wonder why Jesus gave him the keys, since John was the one he loved the most. He must have seen the true worth of Peter.

St. Peter for sure! He was 100% committed, except when he wasn’t…

I feel like he’s my cousin. Close enough to be a sibling, but not close enough to fight with.
 
St Joseph. Imagine being able to talk with the man who helped raise Jesus?
 
St. Peter, because I see myself in him. I can relate to his jumping the gun, his faults, his mistakes and his pig-headedness. I see in him the way past it in Christ, and I thank God for founding the church on him.
 
St. Barnabas, since he’s son of encouragement. I would love to have an hour of his optimism!

I second your selection! Someone who was so absorbed and focused on Jesus Christ would hold a teasure of moments to share!
 
John the baptist for me. Preferably before he saw and recognized Jesus as the lamb and “had to decrease.” If I can’t meet Jesus then I want John in his fullness.

The sight of him alone would be amazing. I’m imagining wild hair and a massive unkempt beard. Wild eyes blazing with zeal. Clad in camel fur, probably the camel fur is clumped together in a lot of spots with crystallized honey 'cause you know that stuff is messy and sticky. Oh man, there would probably be legs and wings of locusts stuck in the honey!

He would shout out in a bellowing voice. “Make straight the way of the LORD! For the kingdom of GOD is at hand!”

His whole world is a religious and political powder keg: the Roman empire is taxing everyone to poverty and utterly crushing anyone who dares to rise against them, the Jewish ruling class had sold out, temple leadership had to make more and more concessions to Pilate, zealots are stabbing people, pharisees and sadducees are on his case.

In the midst of all this he’s one voice crying out in the desert saying God is about to break into history in a big way and y’all better just get ready.

To hear one of his sermons would make all the words said in every southern revival tent sound like Sesame Street. His first shouts were the equivalent of the shots fired at Lexington and Concord of the Christian revolution. They would have hit like Molotov cocktails in a fireworks factory. If you went around Judea in AD 25 shouting that Ceaser was to be banished to the history books and a worldwide church of the living God would be established in Rome in his place you’d be laughed at, killed, and right. John the baptist did pretty much all of that and more.
 
I would like to meet Judas Iscariot at some point and try to either warn him ahead of time or afterwards try to settle him down in order to help convince him to repent.
 
Peter. After all his miserable failings, disbelief, and cowardice… he redeemed himself quite nicely, I think. I love a good redemption.
