As far as current TV show dads go, I like Mike Heck on The Middle and Mr. Baxter (forgot the first name) on Last Man Standing (Tim Allen show).

I liked the episode of The Middle when Mike finally gets that his daughter has been asking for his attention and he takes her out for burgers, just the two of them.

The dad on Last Man Standing has some different views than mine, but I get a kick out of the way he expresses them and I love the relationship between him and his daughter Eve. He seems flawed but an involved and caring dad, like many dads would be, real. (I like the mom too, by the way.)

For past shows, Ward Cleaver, Andy Taylor, and Ben Cartwright.

A few people have already mentioned Dr. Heathcliff “Combustible” Huxtable from The Cosby Show.

I’ll add Ricky Ricardo from I Love Lucy. When he’s singing at the club and he figures out he’s going to be a father is one of the most heartwarming scenes on TV ever.

Al Bundy. 1st Place.
**Red Foxx **(Fred Sanford) from Sanford And Son.

Al is honest. He’s straight talking. He’s not perfect but he doesn’t cheat on his wife and he’s honest.

Fred Sanford is also honest and overall a good guy. Great comedian.

Homer Simpson - He’s perfectly imperfect yet love flows through him.

I do like that scene a great deal, and get teary eyed watching it.

Although, I’m not sure there is very much interaction between Little Ricky and Big Ricky shown. I do like the episode where they both play Babalu in Cuba. I also like the scene when Ricky tells the bedtime story.

But, for whatever reason, Little Ricky wasn’t included in many of the episodes. He was normally with Mrs. Trumble, off scene.

I agree. 🙂

I love the sketch where he is telling little Ricky a bedtime story, which happens to be a Spanish version of Little Red Riding Hood. The way he acted out the story and threw in the odd English word were priceless.

There are so many, but I’d pick Ward Cleaver from Leave it to Beaver, played by Hugh Beaumont.

(Not only was he an actor, but he had a Masters of Theology degree and was licensed to preach by the Methodist church. A good guy both on and off the screen.)
This is very true. Many people don’t realize that Beaumont insisted LITB have some type of moral message in every episode.

I don’t know who my fave is – I’d have to think about it a bit longer – but an honourable mention would have to go to Fred Flintstone. He really adored his daughter Pebbles, and for all his faults, he always tried to do right by his family.

And for that matter, for one episode, Ralph Kramden.

John Ritters character on 8 simple Rules and the father on Seventh Heaven.

I vote for the dad in Father Knows Best. He seemed sensitive to the children and tried to explain things to them.
