Infidels get paid if they convert into Islam. Westerners are the top prize, but not too many of them take the bait.

There were no 5 thousand US military servicemen converting to Islam after the first gulf war.
Can you expand upon these? Converts are paid? I also don’t recall any story about such a conversion. Was that a story running in Arabia?

In answer to the original question, I have very pleasant and friendly Muslim neighbours.

In order to meet Islam’s fastest growing religion annual quota, Saudis are offering money to infidels like Filipinos and Westerners to convert. Non-westerners get small amount of money depending on their “sponsor’s” or “godfather’s” wealth. The westerners are offered the most money and some are in the neighborhood of $50,000. I haven’t seen any westerners taking the offer yet. Plus, westerners beside working with the Saudis have little contact with them. We live in gated fortress guarded by Saudi National Guard soldiers. There’s no mosque in there. Saudis are not allowed in.

Here’s the catch. There’s a probationary period in which new converts must go to the mosque with their sponsors. After that, you are allowed to go freely. However, you are still under surveillance. If they catch you not going to the mosque, you need to return that money.

Islam is the fastest growing religion is a half-true especially in Saudi Arabia or near by regions.

I know at least three personally, and one more who converted to Christianity.

Of the three I know personally, one never really mentioned her religion, one looked at Christianity and decided it wasn’t that different from Islam, and one wore the smaller head covering and was not able to touch alcohol at all. She worked with me at a grocery store, and would always have to ask someone else to come ring up alcohol for her. The second one immigrated to the US with his family about three years ago, and I believe the third was going back to one of the Middle East countries, so chances are she was born outside of the US or her parents were.

The one who converted to Christianity was a foreign exchange student whose host family were missionaries. I’m now going to the church she attended and I definitely understand why she converted!

Moi Moi:) all my life from the one who:

-would curse me for wearing a Cross to the one who bought us a beautiful Cross as a gift.
  • would throw stones at church and attack shrines to the one who enters a church and stands at awe infront of the Crucifix.
  • would not eat pig meat but drinks alcohol, to the one who wouldn’t touch them.
  • would not drink and would fast infront of family only to those who observe .
All kinds, in other words.🙂

When I started reading this thread, I thought it would degrade to another bash the Muslims thread. Thank you for not doing that.

I have had the pleasure to know a couple of Muslims personally and I have found them both very friendly and kind. One is a lady at my bank and another is a lady that that I met on the internet. I am glad I have known them both.

I have met several on this and another religious forum, and I can say the have treated me with kindness and respect, not only on my religion, but my politics as well. Thank you in particular Amy, Al, Kadeveri and Emad. Your kindness makes someone interested in your religion. 🙂

I’ve “met” a lot of people in real life and on different forums that have certain perspectives of others without actually knowing what that other person is like personally.

There is a man who is a part of my family who is Muslim. He is an amazing person. He has been welcomed into my home for many occasions and I would welcome him at any time.

Do any of you who have an opinion of what a Muslim is, or does, actually know someone personally** who is a Muslim?

in Christ
Steph
My raks sharki (belly dance) teacher is a devout Muslim lady from Morocco.

Neighbors of ours, down the street, are very devout Muslims. The wife does not wear a burka, but she does wear the niqab and hijab…also gloves!

I also meet a lot of Muslims in the kosher butcher store where we shop for meat (they can use our meat, but we cannot use their halal meat because their rules for ritual slaughter are not the same…but for them, ours are close enough to be OK!)

There were Muslims where we lived years ago also (from Pakistan), and we had become good friends with one family. They were at my son’s bris (Jewish religious circumcision ceremony) in fact!
