Who loves anime here?

There’s no way they’re tsundere characters, but then again I consider the general lack of fanservice in FMA actually to be one of its positives.

Also I don’t see how either FMAB or the '03 version keep getting construed to be “hostile to religion” at all. So Ed’s an atheist oooh big whoop. :rolleyes: I’ve seen both and it seems like some people just come into it ready to pounce on and magnify any small reference to religion that ever comes up. Interestingly enough there was another member of CAF who used to post here about how she thought the '03 version was somehow pro-Catholic in its message. I don’t agree with her either, but it would have been interesting to hear her explain why she thought so. Unfortunately I think she stopped posting here for good.

True, FMAB doesn’t give a damn when it comes to supporting religion or denying it. I was scared that was going to happen but it didn’t. At all. Its one of those small things that can easily be forgotten but actually ends up helping the story in the end. Just saying. Actually Ed isn’t ana theist; in the manga, he specifically said he was agnostic and I doubt he’d remain an atheist after seeing the Truth. Not to say that Truth is worthy of worship because for a god, he is an utter jerk.

Actually, if you want your teen to check something out, give him FMAB over His Dark Materials anyday. It has a much better emssage of helping people out and is much, much less anti-religious (read: its not anti-religious at all). Either way, FMAB truly is one of the greatest anime I have ever seen if not the greatest. Man, can I not recommend it enough.

Currently am forcing myself to watch School Days. I said force, because School Days is awful. But thats the reason I’m seeing it in all honesty. After watching FMAB, I need to watch something hilariously bad in order to be able to watch good anime again.
 
Just finished School Days. I say finished because I skipped episodes 7 to 11 just to see episode 12. I NEVER do this unless an anime has needless filler like Bleach (I say needless, because Rurouni Kenshin had some filler episodes which I really liked and in fact, I like filler if it is done well. I skip filler arcs like the arc after the soul society one from Bleach) because School Days really was that awful. It did teach me how to not be a douche nonetheless but that doesn’t stop it from being a piece of tuter rubbish. The ending. Oh my gosh, I think this show ahs the worst ending to anything ever. It does everything wrong intentionally: boring plot boring atmosphere, some of the most unsympatethic characters and forgettable characters I have ever seen.

I knew it was going to be bad but not THIS bad. I expected it to be so bad, it’s good material but instead, its so bad it’s AWFUL. I’d rather sit through Twilight than watch this again. I’d rather spend a twelve hour marathon on Pokemon than watch School Days. If you want a work so mistake ridden you can actually learn something from it, read Ayashi no Ceres or watch Bleach. If you want to get bored out of your mind and angry at the same time, watch School Days although it’s at the risk of your own sanity. If I weree to give this anime a rating, I’d give it a 1 out of ten. Just a single 0.5. It doesn’t deserve the 0 rating as I ahve yet to encounter a truly, truly awful on each and every level anime. School Days is awful, but comes this close at not being hellishly awful.

It’s a K-ON! clone but so what. 🙂

Have you watched Okami San and Her 7 Companions? It’s really sweet and has some very emotional moments. No fanservice.

Tari Tari really isn’t like K-On. K-On is much more lighthearted with perhaps the only dramatic part in all 2 seasons coming from the graduation.

Tari Tari is more in line with other PA Works slice of life dramas like True Tears, Hanasaku Iroha and similar shows like Ano Hana and Ano Natsu.
 
I love anime. I use to be on staff for Anime St Louis. I’m glad to have found this thread as I am new to the forums.

Avatar isn’t an anime actually. It is animesque but it isn’t an anime. Is it as good as they say it is?
 
I know it’s not really an anime since it was made in the US. When I was making my list I hesitated to include it, but decided it was as good as any other anime from Japan being that the artwork was inspired by anime. 🙂

I think you should check it out! If you have Netflix the entire series is on there. It really is that good.

Well you won’t get exact same plot lines for sure, but they seem very similar.

Hanasaku Iroha is good except for the underage bondage scene, honestly if a guest tried to sexually molest a 14 year old girl employee should they really be so lenient with him?

Ano Hana is a pretty good although too melodramatic.

His Dark Materials are the work of a well known anti-theist from either the US or the UK, can’t remember which. Most Japanese anime is made by Japanese who are pretty spiritual to some degree. They don’t really have agendas beyond using whatever is there, say religion, as a plot device to create some convoluted story – look at A CERTAIN MAGICAL INDEX.

It’s a kid show. The other anime are shows for teens although in Japan, college and beyond, aged people also sometimes watch them, unless they’re “mahou shoujo” anime in which case they’re usually watched by little girls and people with a pronounced attraction to little girls. This makes cinema screenings quite interesting to observe from a sociological point of view and it makes quite a few mothers very unnerved. Sometimes a mahou shoujo show adds melodrama and exploitation to its gimmicks and you get Madoka Magica. Yes, just by having little girls fight with monsters to the death, one can make a show a top hit for many otakus. US Bluray sales are at $80 per 2-3 eps which means AniPlex is also coining it.

Well in the School Days follow up game, one can choose to have sex (sexual abuse) with second girl’s little sister. No I didn’t play it, and yes it’s for sale in Japan. Honestly why the world doesn’t call Japan out over all these pedo games is beyond me.

I stopped watching School Days when they started having sex around episode 3 or 4. School Days is one of perhaps 1-2 anime per year with actual sexual intercourse in it. I can take a bit of fan service but not sex, even if shown off camera. And it’s a pity because the character design was good.
 
I recently watched the first episode of Kore wa Zombie Desu ka. Parts of it were enjoyable, but it was awfully violent. And it made me think, how do we know when something that’s violent is too violent? It seems silly to ask, but I still feel like I have to. Samurai Champloo has made me wonder about the same thing.

Also, I have nearly finished watching the Soul Eater anime. I can comment on it later once I’ve finished.

Has anyone watched Hetalia? I watched a few episodes of the sub because I heard the English dub was more vulgar. The sub wasn’t too bad.

It’s fun to watch when you want a good laugh and don’t have much time on your hands. I like the sub better as well.

How about the old classics like Key The Metal Idol, Ghost In The Shell (Stand Alone Complex 1 and 2 plus movies) and Serial Experiments Lain? All of those are without fanservice (almost) and have very good story lines.
