Who loves anime here?

You can watch all 13 Fruits Basket episodes over 9000 times, but you will NOT get the full experience unless you read the manga. The anime leaves out so much, changes so much, and it does not even have two of the Juunishi. The anime is a disgrace to Fruits Basket. For example, it does not have Kureno. Who is an important Zodiac. It does not have Rin. Also important. Akito was supposedly destined to die. Not in the manga. And she is NOT male. She was forced to be raised as one. Does the anime mention this? Nope. I would strongly recommend reading the manga. It might be Shoujo, but anyone can enjoy it.

On a similar subject, I would recommend Durarara!! I would more than recommend it. The storyline is good, the characters are developed, and it is unique. Although the light novel and manga is better and goes more in depth, the anime is very good as well. Much more so than Fruits Basket.

Also, what do you guys think of Azumanga Daioh? I watched the first two episodes and they’re rather funny. I did chuckle a bit. Although really, I didn’t chuckle as much as when I heard the concept of some Neon Genesis fan fiction. Some people wrote a story where the Angels, instead of dying when defeated become shoulder Angels, you know, like the ones you used to see in cartoons with the good angel and the devil standing on a character’s shoulders teaching him how to do good or evil? That was certainly funny. Also, I saw a radio drama where the original characters from NGE come together after the series ended to find solutions to keep the series going and earn more money. Aside from some rather mild sexual talk in the beginning, its hilarious. Haibane Renmei has a special place in my heart. Its about Limbo. I won’t spoil more then that but it has the best line I ever heard ever to describe sin.

Yesterday, I think I watched like thirty episodes of Bleach. Yes, thirty. I spent my entire time from 1 o’clock noon to 4 o’oclock in the morning watching nothing but Bleach until I reached episode 56. Today I finished the soul society arc. Can’t wait to see what happens next but man, I need a break. Rebuke me all you want, it won’t happen again but Bleach was surprisingly a good story. Its original, tales chances, can be shocking, the fight scenes feel like actual fights and makes you feel like you’re the one getting stabbed and overall, the experience was very pleasant. Some will complain that a whole arc spanning 49 (actually 47 if you remove those two pointless filler episodes with that Don BWAHAHAHAHAHA!! Kanonji and Ichigo’s sisters) episodes is too long but in bleach I felt that it made the overall experience better as it made us feel the toll and the length which the journey had o the characters and on the soul society. I don’t like how Chad, Orihime, Uryu and Ganju didn’t contribute so much to rescuing Rukia and I certainly didn’t like how we didn’t see much or Uryu and Orihime but I still enjoyed seeing all these characters develop and I enjoyed their respective stories and flashbacks. ALL the characters are interesting, especially Ichigo. I just love the guy and though he can be a jerk, he’s a nice jerk and very well written character in my opinion.

Hate to break it to you, but the Soul Society arc is as good as Bleach gets. :o I really like Bleach too myself, but I’ve gotta be honest. Still a lot of good stuff left in the story, but again feel free to skip all the filler material or it could drive you crazy lol. It’s kinda funny how you mention Ichigo like that, since even though I like a lot of the other characters in Bleach and the way they interact with each other, learning their background stories, etc, I’ve always found Ichigo to be such a predictable and one-dimensional character. On the plus side, though, at least they never prop the story around giving him some love interest cuz no one wants to see that kind of garbage. 😛

Lol, that is sort of a bummer. I like Bleach, but always get stuck on the bount arch right after the Soul Society arch.

That is a hilarious observation about Ichigo. It is true he never really develops as a character, while he will come to the inevitable decision once he has all the information, his basic character never changes. I thought they were going to throw him together with Inoue, but I suppose that would be difficult while Ichigo has his strange attachment with Rukia.

I have sort of moved off anime lately and have been playing/replaying Final Fantasy X. Very fun.

Thanks. I hear the manga is pretty good and even dark. Even though I know all about the Akito thing thanks to TV tropes, you might want to put spoiler tags around that for other people. Please? Thanks:). I don’t mind works that are Shoujo or Shojo at all. My dad when he was a kid was a big fan of an anime called CandyCandy. When I asked him recently what his favorite anime is, he spoke about it. In fact, just today I made him a CD full of old anime theme songs from Italy (Malta didn’t have English channels in the seventieGOLDRAKE!!!) and though when he heard the theme song, he asked me to put it on CD.

I’ll watch Durarara!! together with FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Read the first volume of the FMA manga and though it was just OK, nothing special, I hear that the story is very, very deep. Also, to LB’s teenager, what other anime do you like? Interested to know:). Hope you like the song. I’m more of a seinen guy as I love sad, depressing stories or stories with a lot of heartwarming moments. Anyway, I used to enjoy Digimon and Dragonball Z as a kid. Especially Digimon. Dragonball Z had too much filler. When Jetix came along, I wached shows like Shaman King and Megaman. Strangely, they never aired One Piece, Naruto or Yu gi Oh! on either Jetix or Cartoon Network where I lived. They did show Pokemon but, eh, I wasn’t interested in animals hurting each other just for the hell of it. Digimon was more concerned with saving the world and all that stuff. Next thing you know, there’ll be a show with children fighting to the dea… ‘sees Zatch Bell’ I rest my case. I also liked Sailor Moon whom my sister loved at that time. What are your favorite anime anyway?
 
Talking of Sailor Moon, after watching the opening after like what, 57 years or so (or was it 11? I can’t remember) I had to include it here: youtube.com/watch?v=GMcjIiyFmMk. Something I never noticed as a kid: how can anime girls always have such ridiculously short skirts yet never get arrested? Who knows, I’m just surprised I never noticed that as a kid.
 
another show i enjoyed alot though not really an anime since its an american tv show but anyone watched avatar last airbender? another great show

Ok guys, I just finished the last episode of Elfen Lied with my dad and Neon Genesis be damned, THIS is the greatest anime I have ever seen. Ever. Its one of my favorite works of fiction and the first work to actually make me cry tears of sadness. Its euphoric or whatever. Seriously, the anime is only 14 episodes long (yes, 14 not 13. There is an OVA episode 10.5 that takes place between episodes 10 and 11 although its more appropriate to say that it takes place somewhere in between episode 11). The only problem is that I want more. Note: Do NOT read the next sentence if you don’t want elfen lied spoiled. Do not, seriously as there are SPOILERS. You can only enjoy a good work of fiction if you don’t read spoilers. In fact, I highlighted this part in grey just to make it hard to read. The thing is, I want to know what happens to the other diclonius, I want director Kakuzawa to get his comeuppance and to see what his intentions with that scientist lady were and if the human race will become extinct or not. Also, did Lucy really make it out alive? The ending imlies that she did.

Don’t let the allegations of gore, violence and nudity drive you away. There is pornography which is bad and there is normal nudity which is made for the art. Elfen Lied has nudity intended for art. In Japan, nudity is suppsoed to show how vulnerable an individual is and in the case of the diclonius, thats what the nudity is intended to show. The violence isn’t played for laughs in the way stupid films like Hostel or Nightmare on Elm Street use it. Its intended to show the horrible thigns the characters ahve to pass through. Most of all, my favorite character is Lucy/Nyu. I like how she isn’t a villain but an anti-villain who is completely broken on the inside; I like how she doesn’t enjoy killing people but does it because she has to. I like how she gets so redeemed in the end.

In other words, Elfen Lied is sad. Not suicide inducing like Evangleion because whereas Evangleion’s sadness leaves little to no hope for our characters, Elfen Lied’s sadness leaves hope and turning over a new leaf. It didn’t leave me depressed like Evangelion but satisfied, content and actually happy. The only thing that ticks me off is that I want MORE. If you want more from a series, then that series did something right. ANyway, here’s Lucy:

On Elfen Lied: maybe my only other complaint is the fact that there is no ending to the anime. I don’t want to read the manga, partly because I don’t want to learn Japanese:rolleyes: because there isn’t an English version fo the manga and partly because I can’t stand Lucy being able to tear islands apart with her vectors, actually ENJOYING killing people, in contrast to the Lucy of the anime who feels pain whilst killing people and only kills them ebcause she fells she needs to and also, in a big dethroning moment of suck for me, SPOILER Kouta not forgiving Lucy for that certain thing she did to him. Sure, Lucy’s actions years before were unforgivable but she felt guilty in the animee, spent her entire life seeking Kouta’s forgiveness and in the end, she still is sympathethic and an anti-villian. In the anime, Kouta may not have forgiven her actions but he still forgave her in some way and din’t want her to kill herself.

Yeah like I keep saying you should probably just skip the Bount Arc entirely (as well as all the other fillers). At least the first time going through the series. Just read what happened during those arcs on Bleach wiki, if you must, and save yourself the agony of sitting through all those episodes yourself. 😛

I think Kubo actually said he deliberately made the choice to leave romance out of the story the way he did, and I am eternally grateful to him for that. At least in the anime, he seems to at least sort of throw the hardcore fans (the ones who want to pair characters up) a bone every now and then… “oh look at how Ichigo and Rukia fight, just like a married couple!!” or “OMG Orihime is jealous of Rukia because she’s so close to Ichigo… why can’t Ichigo see how much he really belongs with Orihime, she’s always there for him, ICHIHIME 4EVAR!!!1” :rolleyes:

^^^ lol well anyway at least he knows how to keep reeling the romance freaks in without annoying the rest of us. I can’t say the same for the people who commonly use words like Ichiruki, Ichihime and even sometimes start fan clubs devoted to these imaginary pairings.

That sucks! I love romance in stories if they are written well. I wouldn’t go so far as to make a fan club but I’m an Orihime and Ichigo shipper, maybe even a Rukia and I chigo shipper. Of course, plain old friendship is great too. I love how Orihime and Tatsuki’s relationship is pure friendship, with nothing suggesting homosexuality or other rubbish entering their friendship. Not menaing to go off topic but some guy even said that David and Jonathan were homoromantic! Give me a break, haven’t these people ever ehard of friendship?

Anyway, I have so many anime I must watch. I’m sorry to repeat this lsit but I’m always losing count. Durarara!!, FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood, When they Cry, Rurouni Kenshin, Code Geass; hell, I wish I could see the Rurouni Kenshin film they’re going to release. It looks very interesting, a sort of mystical IP Man (my dad LOVES that movie). I’d rather watch japanese cinema over Bollywood any day! Even the Death Note films look good despite the Shinigami having very goofy CGI. And MAN am I a motormouth!
 
Hey, what do you people think of InuYasha? Is it good?

I went to the video store today and I can’t believe how little anime the store contained. It had bad rubbish like the street fighter and mortal kombat anime with the only worthwile choices being Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Ghost in the Shell. I just saw Spirited Away and, it was good. Not the greatest anime ever and even though its not the greatest animated film of all time in my opinion, its certaily better and more memorable than half the movies Pixar and Disney release nowadays and I love Disney movies. Its sad that the only anime people in Malta seem to remember is Maziger Zeta. not that its bad but there are SOO many good anime out there that are jsut begging to be seen.
 
Saw the first four episodes of Rurouni Kenshin. I don’t think I want to watch it. Not that its bad, far from it, its jsut that it isn’t my cup of tea and I don’t care for the characters, plus the voice acting in the english dub is rather bland especially on the female lead. Now that you speak about it, I don’t remember a single name from Spirited Away. If you love the movie, fine by me but I prefer Ponyo over this one and thats the movie that got me into anime. No, really, its what got me to watching Evangelion!
 
Well guys, I’m going to watch Higurashi no naku koro ni. I hear its very, vey scary so pray to Mary that I don’t need to watch Azumanga Daioh after finishing the first episode, thanks!

I disagree. Just watched first episode. Ging to watch second and third and eventually fourth. Will post after that.

Man, I’m sounding like I’m writing on twitter and I don’t even use it that much. I’ve become an anime and manga fanatic!
