Madoka Magica an unrealistic series? It’s entire point was to show what would really happen if someone actually became a magical girl, all the trials, trauma and troubles they have to go to. And unlike other studio shaft shows, it doesn’t end on a grim dark ending. In fact, it has one of the greatest endings I have ever seen. It’s happy yes, but it’s so sad at the same time. It’s up there with Death Note, Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Monster and 20th Century Boys.
I didn’t watch Hayate the Combat Butler for Nagi. I came for the comedy and stayed for all the characters, specifically Hayate and Hinagiku. Nagi isn’t that much of a tsundere in the sense that she actually gets character development. While the jokes made me smile at first, later on the became very, very funny, with the flying saucer scene in season 2 almost killing me with laughter. As I said, the characters were great. They had perfect chemistry betwween each other, they were all memorable and loveable and Hayate’s point was that he was a parody of the nice guy. he’s a parody sue but still very likeable, still troubled and still interesting.
Hayate is one of those feel good type of shows except that it has much more drama and the characers and their interactions between each other are very, very well done. I read it when I’m feeling depressed a sit’s pure sweet dreams fuel but far from being a guilty pleasure.
You know, reading your description of these shows, I have to say you clearly haven’t seen them. If you did, even if you didn’t like them you wouldn’t say half the things you said. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.

:nope:ewww,cartoons aren’t suppose to be serious [outside of relatively tame Disney or Dreamworks movies].Why are they doing that?.Why is there so much violence?.Why is there so much blood?.Why are things going so slowly?.Why are they trying to be dramatic?

Really D:<?.When it comes to the art that goes behind moving pictures you except garbage like stupid,vulgar and lazily written jokes about pop culture,politics and domestic life that practically anyone can do but when some ppl actually attempt to do something more authentically creative,with a more real depth and maybe without the overt satirical subtext using stories,messages and tropes that are so common to sci-fi,fantasy and thriller genres all of mediums all of a sudden your weirded out by it?..What is the art style turning you off so much?!.Is the non-Western cultural referances turning you off?.Do you know that this actually has a much bigger production budget?.*”.

even if it’s sorta hokey to see superheroes with a trend inclined to gaudy,brightly colored costumes and semi-armored to full-armored look I’m sure that when manga or anime makers watch that stuff as little kids it helps influence their sub-conscious into deciding what action a/o drama will twinge with humanity despite any 
.I’m not sure if I can say if it’s been the same or reverse with American superheroes like the Green hornet,Adam West’s Batman,Smallville,Linda Carter Wonder woman,NBC’s Heroes,sci-fi stuff like Star trek,Doctor Who and Battlestar galactica or even horror stuff like Vincent Price’s stuff and Buffy the vampire slayer.I tip my hat off to ppl on both side of the globe for doing the *rubber costumes,make-up and hammy-ness thing but honestly I admire the Japanese more for taking this to a greater length.It was sure endearing to me when I was kid even if it was the Americanized Power rangers and I hope that kids are still endeared by such stuff.Somehow I have a feeling that growing cosplay movement in the West will help this stuff out.

And yes, one would not go far in this business if he did not have assistants helping him. Especially those who work in weekly anthologies, where you have a week to plot, sketch, draw sixteen or more page’s worth of manga and to get it printed.
