Who loves anime here?

I love Naruto. The characters are extremely compelling. Although I prefer the manga to the anime (even if the anime is what introduced me to the series).

I couldn’t read One Piece at all because of the art. :\ Bleh.
I’ll be honest, I’ve never seen an ep of Naruto or One Piece. And it’s not that I don’t like Samurai anime - I liked Seven Samurai - and of course I like Akira Kurosawa films. 🙂

Naruto starts out really simply but as it continues the story gets more and more complex and it’s hard not to become invested.

For me it was the storyline with the little ninja boy and his protector (can’t remember their names) that really flamed my love for the show. Basically they were two outsiders who came together. All they had was each other. I don’t know. They were the BAD GUYS but I found myself totally invested in them and I was devastated when they died.

From that moment on I had to watch and things just kept getting better and better. 😃

I hate when that happens too. With anime shows you never really know when something like that may happen. My fault is that I’m sometimes too sensitive and become engrossed with the character/story and wham–they kill them off.

Maybe I should give it a go sometime.

I’m planning on dressing up as an Akatsuki member this Halloween. 😛 (Akatsuki are the bad guys in Naruto - well, one of them)

Should be fun.

Anyway, do give it a go. And don’t stop until you meet the two wayward ninjas. You’ll know you’ve encountered them when the music turns all amazing. 😛

Nah, I was only kidding. I think this caption sums up very nicely what real life women would think of one playing as a female character. And no, that’s not the reason at all.

Something clean and sane, eh?
Yes, something like that. :3

While we’re on the whole “guys picking girl characters” thing, back when I played Pokemon years ago, I used to pick the girl characters.

Maybe I thought they were cute or something.

Anyways, I’m watching one of the new shows for this season right now, Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun / My Little Monster. Very nice show thus far. Worth a look for romcom fans. crunchyroll.com/my-little-monster

I always pick guy characters. 🤷 It’s not a big deal, I do just think they’re cute. 😛

Good enough reason. 🙂

Obligatory joke:

The internet: where men are women, women are men and children are FBI agents.

I’m going to be out of the loop with my J-pop culture intake for an unknown amount of time b/c for the next few months I’m going to perpetually have my hands full with school. The thing about the computer studies program I’m in is that b/c computer sci related sci is so novel to me and personally difficult to grasp for me it actually made me afraid enough of failing school work that I wont have much of a problem cutting down on leisure time.Esp.HTML stuff -_-.

This means that it wont be like in the old days when I would have at my most abundant times half a dozen to a dozen assorted comics a/o manga books laying around in my room to read.I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to add stuff to the discussion here b/c of that.I still got big lists of stuff to watch and read though.Just to say most of it is old stuff that seems like manga and anime “classics” that I’m obligated to see:shrug:.

For now it’ll just be a weekly dose of subbed *Kamen rider wizard *episodes and watching an episode of Ghost in the shell:stand alone complex (and later on 2nd gig) once a week.Unlike years ago when I watched it on the same nights more or less as the FMA 2k3 anime I finally understand it (not fully but) a lot better than before :D.

Just wanted to say that this thread inspired me to go and try some new anime. I haven’t seen anything new in AGES.

Let’s see, I ordered: Nodame Cantabile - because I’m a music freak and the first manga volume seemed really cute.
Otome Youkai Zakuro - really have NO IDEA what it’s about but the cover looked pretty. shallow
and
You’re my Pet, which isn’t technically anime but I think it’s based off a manga?

Zakuro is in my top 5 all-time easily. Excellent mix of romcom with action and drama. Animation is also amazing. Also, fanservice is minimal to nonexistent.

Without spoiling it, the ending doesn’t disappoint either.

It’s a shoujo anime (isn’t it) so there would be little fanservice.

But besides that, looking at the summary, the show is about the lead fighting against Jesuit (read Christian) Western influences. Sort of Shino vs Christianity. Ok, that could just be a plot device, and I bet it is.

It’s more about tradition (old Japan) vs modernism (frequently under the catch-all terms of “Jesuit” or “Western”).

And shojo doesn’t necessarily mean “no fanservice”.

Hey guys, I actually watched the first episode of Naruto yesterday with my dad who said that he was curious and wanted to see what it was about. We checked an english dubbed episode (yes, blasphemy, I know FOR SURE that the Japanese sub will definitely be better than any english dub dubbed by a company dedicated to children) and man oh man it… wasn’t bad at all. It was actually interesting. Is it enough to make me watch the anime? NO! Are you serious dude? I can’t watch 500 bloody episodes of an anime that will msot probably be so ok it’s average. I mean, there are so many shorterand better anime out there than Naruto it’s not funny. 500 x 20 minutes, the average time for an anime episode= 10,000 minutes. 10,000 minutes= 167 hours= 6 days. But since I don’t spend my days watching anime literally non-stop. if I spent 12 hours a day watching Naruto, it’d take like 2 weeks to finish all 500 episodes but who on earth wants to spend 2 weeks watching notihng but fight scenes and magic and etc?! I’d become ill!

I will try the manga however, it looks interesting and the anime had rather good animation honestly. One thing wrong: I’m bored, a sin really, really bored. I’ve been waiting two weeks waiting for my copy of Baccano! to arrive and it still hasn’t arrived! Whats wrong with the world today? Nobody should suffer two weeks of waiting for a DVD they want to see, nobody, it’s cruel and unnecessary. There should be a law!

HAHA! Oh my goodness. You would hate Dragonball then too.

Personally I enjoyed Dragonball (which I used to record every week for my brother - this is what introduced me to anime) and Naruto in small doses. No need to watch it all in one big chunk. Just watch an episode now and again. Granted you may lose interest before you see every single episode (I stopped watching before Shippuden) but so what? You’ll enjoy yourself in the meantime.

Anyway, I guess I just like action so I don’t mind that it’s just one big fight after another with bits of character development and plot mixed in. I stick with my comment that there are some pretty deep storylines in Naruto. The kind of stories that get you stuck forever because you just have to know how it turns out.

But the manga would probably be more to your taste. Although that too is quite long winded.
