Who loves anime here?

I mean for instance in Digimon wasn’t originally meant for a demographic as broad as DBZ you had plenty of more intelligent dialogue between characters about what was going on,their relations with others and the computer related stuff that comes with Digimon**. This (and a few other things like the concerns and involvement of the characters parents) made the characters so much more like human while still in an obviously fantastical story.
Depending on what you like it’s more on the sentimental side with the first two seasons and more on a grimer slightly more realistic side with season 3.It was way more intellectually and emotionally engaging despite being targeted at mostly younger viewers.That’s the kind of development a DB series* should* get.

This all being said I hope you guys dont mind me meander on the DB fanfics I’ve been working on …[just a while soon now,…]

*I actually like GT and have no problem with it believe it or not.That show further points out how the series is about the life story of Goku.It was okay.I mean it’s pacing sorta made it lose some of the suspense level from Z and that’s NOT just b/c of Kyle Hebert’s absent narrator voice.I first watched the Latino spanish version in El Salvador roughly a year before it came out in Canada and found it enjoyable.I mean the execution and some of the stories among other things like canonictiy are hotly debatable but it did have a more palatable length.Also I like Pan (here voice more so in Latino spanish dub).It was interesting to see a girl’s perspective on DB adventures esp.if that girl is the granddaughter of the guy who’s been the hero of the previous two series and wasn’t forced into an adventurous lifestyle like her dad.It also kind of seems to make it seem that you cant have a Dragonball series without a Son family member the same way you cant seem to have post-Return of the Jedi expanded universe novels and comics without a Skywalker.By the way IMO the last few moments of the last GT episode gave **WAAAYYY **better closure with just enough slight ambiguity then the last few moments of Z.

**As you can prob.tell by now I have a love of Digimon and I do think that series is awesome pfirst two seasons were A BLAST!!!).But it’s not like I base all anime and manga by the standards of the first three seasons of that series.I bring it up b/c it had a lot of strong points which can nicely and seamlessly supplement a shonen esp.in the way I’d do another DB series.Also I admit to the guilty please still watching the other series besides the first two.As a matter of fact,I finished watching season three just a few months ago to see if I could understand this time around in contrast to the initial disappointment I had yrs ago,the reasons for which I wont get into right now.I’m determined to watch the rest of the show into the 6th and allegedly final season.

Oh don’t worry, I sure give Dragonball credit for fathering the shonen genre. I just think that old-time fans (and haters of younger series -.-) need to realize its flaws.

In terms of storyline, I haven’t really made an criticism. Heck, my one and only complaint I’ve ever had against Dragonball is the art style!

This is not attractive. At all.

I think they were both attractive! While I do appreciate a cute tummy, though I wouldn’t have been sad to see her have more clothes covering it. NOT TO BE A PRUDE OR ANYTHING, LOL

It has a lot of creative stories in its meduim and some things that would just look silly or dumb on western animation, comic bookc and film just work in anime. Also, because it comes from Japan, we sort of get a look into a diffirent and interesting culture with its standards and dissonance to our own.

More time seems to be spent on character development and most anime have sweeter and more heartwarming moments than most western shows. Just look at Elfen Lied and Higurashi no naku koro ni. Those are like the two anime that made me cry the msot. Because of Japanese culture is so diffirent, they take more risks than we do such as showing more (albeit non-sexual) nudity, more violence, more mature themes, that, and their run time is usually short: the longest an anime episode has ever gotten is as far as the 30 minute mark with episode 21 of Evangelion.

Their art style is also great as it is jsut unique and beautiful. Everyone loves beautiful thigns you know!

This does not mean that all anime is great of course but most of the time, it is at least good or passable and when an anime is very good, it is EXCELLENT. If you want to begin watching anime, just watch Elfen Lied or Neon Genesis Evangelion first (one is seinen, the other is shonen respectively. Yes, really.) Thats how I began and although Evangleion introduced me to anime, Death Note and Elfen Lied made me stay and so did Haruhi Suzumiya and Clannad.

Now that’s a very interesting question, and one I’m planning to ask on other people I know (if you don’t mind).

I’ll bet different people have different reasons (and thus your mileage may vary), but for me one of the things which make manga and anime attractive is the use of the medium to express concepts and idea that Westerners will usually never associate with animated stuff. As I’ve said in another place, many people in the West have the mentality that comics and especially cartoons are generally children’s fare. In Japan however manga (and to some extent anime) is seen as something that is for people of all ages, which explains why you can find the whole gamut, from the simple and childish to the profound and incomprehensible. There’s also the fact that it is a creation by another, much romanticized (since the 19th century) culture. People have this habit of being captivated by the exotic, the foreign, the unconventional, the ‘different’: in medieval Europe it was the Middle East, in the Renaissance it was ancient Greece and Rome, in the early modern era it was Asia (specifically South Asia and the Far East).

American cartoons have a history of being for kids and families. Japanese anime was never restricted in such a way. Anime is for all audiences and covers all genres. With anime, you can do stuff that would be impossible in live action and very expensive for CGI. Japanese writers tend to be far more serious about plots than American cartoonists.

As an example, Ghost in the Shell is a realistic exploration of philosophically complex issues of what it will mean to be Human in 2040 - when computerized brain implants will give us immediate and permanent access to all of the internet, we’ll have the option to trade in our Human body for a robot body, and machines will be smarter than Humans. The plots of the two TV series are masterworks of fiction and futurology. Anyone who plans to be alive in 30 years needs to watch GitS:SAC right away. We need to start thinking about the problems we will face if we want to survive as a species.

I detest to seem like an unreliable youtube celeb with bad upload timing but I’ve decided not 2 talk about my DB fanfic (4 NOW).Trust me I’ll get back to that but even though I know what I’m to talk about I’m not too sure how I’m going to explain it which is prob.why it’ll take a while.It’ll take some thought to put into and I’ve actually got work tomorrow .I’m also sorry if I’m seeming ostentatious.

On acocunt of this I’m going to post about something a bit more different.Belldandy has GOT 2B the “sweestest” anime female I’ve seen so far!.I mean I know that a heavy part of her personality comes from the “Yamato nadeshiko”(.i.e. Japanese Dianthus [flower] tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/YamatoNadeshiko) concept of a personified and idealized Japanese woman (which some might argue is anti-feminest but hey aren’t there harem animes that are worse regarding that?) but put that outside of consideration and her sweetness is as endearing as like…Goku’s naiveness out of lack of better examples .Also she is* a goddess* and not human so whether her depiction marginalizes woman is debatable.Gotta say though I’ve grown to so like Belldandy that (call me corny or whatever) but whenever I see her distressed (esp.with the anime) in my mind I’m like “Oh no please dont Belldandy ,please dont be sad”.

Most of the romance comedy in my opinion comes from the shenangins between ppl instead of visual (or even verbal really) innuendo.There’s a bit but it’s a lot less then the others which almosts always depend on that.Trust me I’ve been too compelled by the relations and emotions of the characters to pay much attention to the innuendo.That’s largely due to the reoccurring questions like how evenly can the couple reciprocate for each other,will the goddess ever have to leave,cant they live normal lives,is there an extent as to out of how much free agency are they doing all this etc.Also interestingly it’s in the seinen demographic (basically guys 17 and up) and it’s barely offensive.It’s really rekindled my love of anime and manga which is good to get away from p while making me interested in romantic comedies.For me I find it to be sort of like my manga equivalent substitue for Archie comics .

I’ve watched both seasons of the show,all 5 early 90’s OVA’s,a few mini-goddess episodes and both anime seasons.It was daunting at first but I’ve read in non-chronological order 77 chapters of the manga (the first 50 and a few others from the early 100’s range).I’ve been wondering about how it’s going to wrap up and when.Hopefully it’ll be with that BelldandyXKeiichi wedding I’m so rooting for :extrahappy::whackadoo:.I mean come on the system force makes Bell his only functional choice for a wife anyways.There’s a few problems though.The one that mainly bugs me is if Keiichi ends up aging like a regular human and passes on while Bell stays the same.Another is how’d they get married.I mean I know that the OMGoddess series is loosely based on Norse mythology.Maybe they could say that Keiichi is a descendant of a hero from Norse mythology like maybe something Sigfried like so that he’ll be more worthy of his in marriage or something ?.

Wow, an Aa! Megamisama! fan. Nice to see one here. Also a fan, though I’ve only seen the OVA plus a few of the new series. Many say the OVA was much better than the anime series…

I sort of agree with that.The OVA’s really show the entire essence of the show like about how Keiichi always wonders just how true his love is for Bell and if he can like reciprocate properly,ppl trying to interfere with their relationship like Bell’s sisters.From what I’ve read from the manga most of the anime is basically adaptations of early chapters.I can feel like it just drags on though.I hope this wont be one of those rare mangas that drag on for such a long time that they start to feel pointless similar to the Pokemon and Detective Conan animes.

To be hoenst, forge my comment on Bebop earlier. I’m going to get a lot of hate here but, meh, I find Bebop to be rather boring as it has no plot as of now and th characters aren’t very interesting or appealing to me. I’m only 8 episodes in but just look at Evangelion and Elfen Lied and see what they did with their characters in 8 episodes. I’m dropping it and am going to finish watching FMP! and Samurai Champloo.

Also, Yamato Nadeshiko sexist? Then what do fmeinsiuts want, that a woman be angry and bitter and a kid hater instead of a strong, family woman who can keep her house in order? Why are there so few female mother heroes in western works? Whats wrong with being a mother and a protagonist struggling with life? True such a story may not be very interesting but put a twist on it. Hell, just look at Nagisa of Clannad and Kaoru Kamiya of Rurouni Kenshin, not to mention the fact that a lot of the girls in Hayate no Gotoku are rather girly including Hinagiku whom I never saw even in the least a tomboy and Tohru of Fruits Basket. Just, really? Being a strong family woman is sexist nowadays? Look to the Blessed Virgin as an example and just ignore these nutters.
