This might be a silly question to ask…I’ve been doing it so long I never even thought about it until now…
But is there anything wrong with watching fan-subbed anime streams? Or fan-subbed manga uploaded online? Or downloading fan-subbed anime episodes?
Some anime is syndicated on television, but some are strictly DVD/Blu-ray releases. But on the other hand, it’s not like us westerners have any other means to turn to if we want to watch anime and understand them if can’t speak Japanese, and/or aren’t sold locally.
But is there anything wrong with watching fan-subbed anime streams? Or fan-subbed manga uploaded online? Or downloading fan-subbed anime episodes?

They’re fan subbed and fan dubbed. They’re just writing their own translations of certain anime and manga because they are unavailable or hard to get and in fact, they’re original works because the translators subtitled the original anime and manga with their own hands. Thats my opinion anyway. Personally, without fansubbing, I wouldn’t even be able to read or see a lot of works.
Besides, lots of fansubbed anime like those of Geneon are sponsored by big name companies and what not so it’s not like the owners aren’t getting payed.

I would second your recommendation of Princess Jellyfish. When I first tried looking into josei titles, the ones I found seemed too… I guess I could say, romance novel-y. It’s not that I don’t like romance. It’s just that a lot of the ones I find these days are embarrassing, mushy messes. Not so Princess Jellyfish. That one is worth checking out for the opening sequence alone. It has one of those read-the-manga endings, though, so be warned: don’t expect any romantic resolutions in the anime.

man Seto no Hanayome was good. It was very, very funny although I don’t think it’s for everybody. The humor is mostly just very, very random and insane and when I call it insane, I mean it. If you thought Hayate no Gotoku was crazy, you’ve seen nothing yet. I really recommend it for a good laugh and some sweet moments. It’s above average or passable due to how funny it is and the main couple is rather well developed. Overall, I’d call it good. I loved it and the music was also awesome.

Personally if I don’t own the original I won’t watch the fansub/fandub.
I feel it’s the same as downloading pirated movies. In my humble opinion.
For one of my FAVORITE animes, prior to it being released in English, I bought the originals in the original language and then downloaded the subs/dubs. This IS possible. It’s really not as ‘impossible’ as people like to make it sound. You just have to be willing to pay for it.

The artbook is pretty standard for an artbook, you don’t need to learn any language. Disappointedly, very few rare artwork. Most of them are already in the manga, except they are coloured here. The cover page may looks like an erotic artbook, but most of the artwork inside isn’t, only a few borderline picture. You know how the drawing style change from Season 1, Season 2 and the Movie in the anime change, this one based on the early manga and season 1 drawing style.

Don’t understand anything in it. But the cover page of blushing Sakuya really puts me into purchasing mode. I really just wanted to buy the artwork book, just purchasing this alongside the artbook since the shipping charge is the same.
About the language, I did “discern”
to learn a new language. Considering Yesjapan dot com, but checking my next semester timetable first. College life 
To go to a learning center really makes no sense, since most of them learning there are preparing to study in Japan and also ehem money ehem. I did have this Japanese phrasebook, but it’s really like for tourist in Japan rather than learning the language.

Maybe your library has something like that?Language learning CAN be expensive but it can also be free if you’re just learning for fun.

With the mentions of Hayate recently, I’d like to reiterate that I am definitely looking forward to the coming Fall season–including the new Hayate (although I can’t say I like the art just yet)!

Definitely looking forward to seeing the new Hayate! the manga, with the exception of the two Yukiji chapters wasn’t very good recently (they even had a whole chapter dedicated to Fumi. I HATE Fumi. She’s one of only two anime characters I hate just for being pure annoying, the other beinf Gates from Full Metal Panic!). I actually like the art in the new anime even though I do wish Hayate’s hair was much, lets say, smaller. Not shorter, smaller, Hayate needs smaller hair! and that he would look more masculine. I like how Hayate was drawn in the first chapters although right now in the mnaga he is far from bad and I love the artwork in it.
I haven’t looked at the upcoming 2012 anime season in winter but, I can’t wait for Evangelion 3.0 to be released in the states so that I could see it and I can’t wait for my 3 disc set of Baccano! to arrive in the mail.
However, I want to watch Fate/Zero as the first two episode of Fate/Stay Night were somewhat good, if lukewarm honestly. I tried looking at a lets play of the visual novel but man oh man, was it boring at the beginning.
Also, Zetman looks interesting.

According to my source, the new anime of Hayate (not 3rd season) begins airing on TV Tokyo on October 3rd at 26:05. Now that’s exciting~ The “live” kinda feeling.

With a source like Crunchyroll, they do simulcasts.
Theoretically, those episodes are supposed to air with subs at the same time as they do in Japan. In practice, the episodes are usually out with subs within 6 hours of the Japanese airing.

To the poster who was concerned about me watching too much anime: thanks, but sometimes I may say that I’m watching something when I sort of give up on it for some time and do somrthing else. For example, not long ago I said I’m going to read Berserk but instead, I read the Rurouni Kenshin manga and am currently reading the Kenichi the mightiest discple manga which is just awesome with a very likeable main character. In fact, both Kenshin and Kenichi have made me resolve to join a Kendo club. Dad even found one and we’re going there. I can’t wait to learn Kendo! I’m already started training some of the movies I found in Rurouni Kenshin and Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple and they seem so hard yet easy! I just wish my body had a better physical condition

For the physical condition, if you really want to improve, try the gym and do a bit of treadmill.
If you’re not used to physical exercise, try 15 minutes a day. Then increase the training time gradually.
