what I think is irrelevant the gospel clearly states should you chose to read the source that the sentence of death for convicted criminals was reserved for the Romans, the governor in this case, Pontius Pilate, and that Roman soldiers carried out the sentence.

Was it the Romans or the Jews ? - twinc
What is the point to such a question? There is no doubt as to the answer.

John 19:23 “When **the soldiers **had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four shares, a share for each soldier.”

In reality we all nail Jesus to the Cross every time we sin!

"For Christ also died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit;"( 1 Pe 3:18)

This is the hardest line ever. We have to admit it, but if we truly believed it, there
would be no more sin.

Jesus told Pilate that those who turned him over had the greater guilt, yet I still feel
it was the Romans. If no one would kill someone, then they wouldn’t be dead, no
matter what else happened. Why don’t they televise executions? Why don’t
reporters film the grisley details of war? That’s so we can all wash our hands, like
Pilate. Even Jesus didn’t know how to fight evil, except to lay down His life.

Jesus prayed for those who nailed Him “Father forgive them for they know not what they do”.Now Jesus’s prayer must be heard,so besides us is it the romans or jews that have been forgiven - see what has happened to the romans and the jews since - twinc

It is hard at the reading of the Passion on Palm Sunday to join in the chorus, Crucify Him. It is a reminder that we say that in actuality every time we commit a sin. 😦

the Romans crucified Him, at the behest off the Jews, His own people.

had the Jews gotten ahold of Him, they would have stoned Him to death as was their custom and Mosaic commandment (John 10: 24-39, Leviticus 24:15-16).

in either case, they believed He was comitting blasphemy by equating Himself with God and by claiming to be Messiah, the Son of God. but as the method of execution by crucifixion was a Roman method of punishment, not a Judaic one, as as Roman soldiers nailed Him to the cross it is more appropriate to say that the Roman government killed Jesus, as Isaiah 9:6 prophesied.

Amen.

Could you tell us just who you mean by “Rome?” Thank you.

Hi Cheeto,

Of course Jesus knew how to fight Satan since He was, is, and always be God. God is all powerful, all knowing, and everywhere at once, is He not? God could make everything be just the way he wants it but then he would not be God anymore, He would be dictator or such. He did lay down His life for us but he did it willingly so that mankind could be saved.

God Bless

I hope you don’t think I am insulting our Lord. I am just saying that everyone tries
every way to fight evil. They do it with weapons, violence, executions, etc. But
Jesus Himself used no kind of force. That was the onliest best way He could
think of, and He is God. Yet no one tries His way. He showed that there was a way
after all, but it costs your life.

John 2:13-16

13 Since the Passover of the Jews was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
14 He found in the temple area those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, as well as the money-changers seated there.
15 He made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple area, with the sheep and oxen, and spilled the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables,
16 and to those who sold doves he said, “Take these out of here, and stop making my Father’s house a marketplace.”

Cheeto,

No I didn’t think you were insulting our Lord and I am sorry if I came off too strong. I did however wonder if you truly understood His power. As it turns out I didn’t understand what you were trying to say. I will definately try to ask before I jump to a conclusion in the future.

You are totally correct about the way we fight evil. Thank you for your comments and your insight into our shortcomings.

God Bless :blessyou:
