Actually the chapters and verses of the Bible were created at two different points in history, centuries apart. The standard modern chapters were introduced in 1227 by Stephen Langton, the Archbishop of Canterbury. Standard modern verses were the work of Robert Estienne, who printed a version of the Bible around 1555.
