It’s been mentioned before. Who’s read it and/or recommends it if I want to learn about the Jesus Prayer?

So do I.

I would suggest, if you can get it, the translation by R. M. French.

I’ve read it, it is good. I don’t think you need to read the book to learn “The Jesus Prayer” though. You probably know it already.
Code:
* Arabic: أيها الرب يسوع المسيح ابن الله, إرحمني أنا الخاطئ **Ayyuha-r-Rabbu Yasū` al-Masīħ, Ibnu-l-Lāh, irħamnī ana-l-khāti'** (ana-l-khāti'a if prayed by a female).
(грѣшнѹю if prayed by a female)
* Czech: **Pane Ježíši Kriste, Syne Boží, smiluj se nade mnou hříšným**.
* Greek **Κύριε Ἰησοῦ Χριστέ, Υἱέ τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἐλέησόν με τὸν ἁμαρτωλόν **(τὴν ἁμαρτωλόν if prayed by a female)
* Latin: **Domine Iesu Christe, Fili Dei, miserere mei, peccatoris**. (peccatricis if prayed by a female)
(păcătoasa if prayed by a female)
* Russian: **Господи Иисусе Христе, Сыне Божий, помилуй мя грешнаго**.(грешную if prayed by a female)
(A form addressing Jesus as 'Adonai Jehovah') / Господи, помилуй (The shortest form).
(**Gospode Isuse Hriste, Sine Božiji, pomiluj me grešnog**.)
* Slovak: **Pane Ježišu Kriste, Synu Boží, zmiluj sa nado mnou hriešnym**.
(грішну if prayed by a female)/Господи, помилуй (The shortest form).
There you go, from wikipedia:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_Prayer

I pray it in either English, Ukrainian, or Latin.

Also, the book and many many of my Eastern Catholic and Orthodox friends remind us all: do not undertake any spiritual discipline without the help and guidance of a Spiritual Father (Mother.)

So do I.

I would suggest, if you can get it, the translation by R. M. French.
I second this - the RM French translation is wonderful.

That being said, I would be careful to talk with your priest/confessor before and after reading. The book can inspire some lofty (but perhaps not realistic) spiritual aspirations. When I read it, I wanted to immediately start saying the Jesus Prayer 35,000X per day. That wasn’t for my station in life. A confessor can help you determine better what might be.

Just my 2¢.

Me! It’s a novel, but is based on spiritual truth…it is unknown whether or not it is a true story, but it doesn’t matter.

You will also want to get your hands on the Philokalia if you are interested in the Jesus Prayer.

If you’re getting “The Way of a Pilgrim”, try to get one with it’s sequel, “The Pilgrim Continues His Way”. A search on Amazon will lead to a few compilations, which aren’t too bad.

Anyways, the Philokalia is not recommended unless you have a spiritual father or possibly, “starets”. Until then, if you still insist on getting the Philokalia, like I have, get this:

amazon.com/Philokalia-Christian-Spiritual-Texts-selections-Illuminations/dp/1594731039/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1226972086&sr=1-2

This is NOT the complete Philokalia, but you will have a good foundation in the thought of the Christian East.

I second the R.M. French suggestion. The Jesus Prayer is a good compliment to the Rosary.🙂

It depends entirely on which tradition you’re from. If you’re from the Western tradition, the Rosary is indeed complemented by The Jesus Prayer and the other devotions i.e. Akathist, Moleben etc. However, it will be the other way round if you’re from the Eastern tradition. Nevertheless, practice all and enjoy all.
