I seem to recall Father Corapi attributing that to a saint.

I don’t know who said it either, but Alcoholics Anonymous and other 12-step programs have wisely adopted this as one of their slogans to avoid condemning other members who may have “slipped”.

THERE BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD GO I - “On seeing several criminals being led to the scaffold in the 16th century, English Protestant martyr John Bradford remarked, ‘There but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford.’ His words, without his name, are still very common ones today for expressing one’s blessings compared to the fate of another. Bradford was later burned at the stake as a heretic.” From the “Encyclopedia of Word and Phrase Origins” by Robert Hendrickson, Facts on File, New York, 1997.

Keith Urban too 😃

That was the first one of his songs that really caught my attention.

I found this site attributing it to St. Philip Neri so it could be both. During his talk on the Catechism on the 8th commandment, I heard Father Corapi say again it was St. Philip.
