I heard Father Corapi saying this quote on one of his CDs and I was wondering who said it. Does anyone know?

The quote Fr. Corapi tells of a man who asks someone about people/saints in the future and the person who was asked says some things and then says…

"but, I tell you, they will be greater than us because while we fight the devil chained, they will fight the devil unchained."

Can someone help me out?

In a homily, I heard a priest, who btw went to seminary with and knew Fr. Corapi, attribute this quote to St. Francis of Assisi I think… or it may have been to one of his immediate followers. Hope this helps.

I believe I heard Fr Wade on EWTN give this quote saying that St. Louis De Montfort said it, but I’m not positive that he said that St. Louis said it. You might want to write/email to Fr. Pacwa at EWTN or check with Colin Donovan on their Q&A on their website.

I thought he said it was one of the desert fathers. I’ve never been able to find it anywhere, though.

St. Cyril of Jerusalem, born 315 a.d., comparing the persecution of his own day with those that would be perpetrated by the Antichrist said: “I consider that the martyrs of that season will be greater than all martyrs; for the former martyrs wrestled with man only, but these, in the time of the Antichrist, will battle with Satan himself in person.”

Nothing about chains, though. I got this from my book The Antichrist, by Fr. Vincent Miceli.

I have a book of quotes from the Desert Fathers - people you are probably not familiar with. That quote comes from one of them.

The quote is actually a little longer. I’ll see if I can find it and post it later.

St. Augustine

I read it (or one similar) by St. Louis de Montfort, but apparently a lot of Saints said this…St. Therese alluded to it in her autobio. as well.

I’m pretty sure in Fr. Corapi’s sermons, he attributes this saying to St. Anthony of the Desert. Hope that helps. 🙂
