I agree with Zian. Nobody has to open and read through a tedious thread on evolution.
Use your discretion and its no skin off anyones nose. Personally I ignore most threads that exceed about 30 or 40 posts because they tend to get a bit more than I want to read through on most subjects. Maybe I am a delitant rather than a serious student. :)Except the Mods…
Nah Zian, I’m just whining, and not seriously so. Most folks don’t realize that I actively patrol this forum.

Sorry, I was being selfish. Didn’t realize you guys have to plod through all this stuff. I guess I was thinking; Mods = Spot Checks like the new searches at the air ports. I appreciate even more fully the ervices you render. 🙂 Dick

…a sub-forum would be welcome–where the evolutionists, creationists, geo-centrists and solar centrists, etc., etc. can go at it and leave the rest of us in blessed peace!
There’s a simple solution: Scroll past the evolution threads and choose not to click on them. In any case, discussions of the relationship between faith and science are far more relevant than many of the other trivial or even silly threads that folks have posted on this site.

God bless,
Don

As a Creationist (I believe God did create the world in 7 days-and they were 24-hour days), I usually skip right past the threads on evolution because there’s nothing in them that’s going to make me change what I believe to be true. The reason I read this one was because of the title.

I don’t seen why we need a moratorium on evolution threads. No one is being forced to read them. Plus, I thought this was a place where all ideas are welcomed for discussion (except, of course, those few that are put off-limits by the moderators), as long as we do it with manners and respect.

So, as a Creationist, if you want to discuss evolution, go right ahead. It’s not going to change my mind on the subject. In fact, I probably won’t even read the thread. 😉

Are you infallible, then?😉 Are you so positive you’re right, and have you studied the issues so carefully, objectively, and thoroughly, that you see no need to continually evaluate your own assumptions? There’s no room for growth in your understanding of these matters? What, then, does it mean to love the Lord with all of one’s mind, as we are commanded to do? Willful ignorance is an error best avoided by those who claim to follow truth. Here’s hoping you continue to seek the truth on this issue, as well as on all others.

Truly,
Don

I’m not “willfully ignorant” and I resent the assumption from you that I am. Just because I disagree with your conclusions does not mean that I am “willfully ignorant”.

The point I was trying to make is that I think most people have made up their minds on the subject, one way or the other. I can’t see that evolutionists are going to change their minds based on some postings on this forum. I think the same goes for Creationists.

No, I don’t think I’m infallible. Yes, I believe that I’ve studied the issues enough for me to make an informed decision. I whole-heartedly believe in the Catholic Church and all that it teaches. Do I need to continually listen to others who are against the Church in order to “prove” what I already believe is true? No, I continue to study the Catholic Faith in order to make my faith stronger. I think the same arguement can be made for where I stand on Creationism vs. Evolution. Others can disagree with me, and that’s fine, as long as they do so with respect.

Personally I think the biggest problem with the evolution threads is that people pit creation against evolution when there is no contradiction between the two, when they are rightly considered.

God bless, and Merry Christmas,

Apparently agreeing with your views means loving the Lord with all of one’s mind. Why are you so sure of the Virgin birth? Aren’t you open to other possiblities? Why so narrow minded. Geez, Donald, seriously give it a rest and try to be a gentleman when addressing a lady.

Better yet perhaps you need to study the fathers more to understand that the overwhelming majority of them agree with Scout’s position. As it is you need to side with skeptic 20th century liberal scholars who allegorize the first 11 chapters of Genesis something that is completely novel in prior church history.

This is why I want the moratorium. They evolutionist are typically this condescending. Not all, but a good number of them.

I think I will take your approach.

I voted no more evolution threads. If you check all the 2004 threads, they are the same as the 2005 threads.

Everything that needed to be said about evolution and creation was said in 2004. We don’t need the 2006 threads repeating the 2004 threads again.

But we absolutely need plenty more geocentrism and flat earth and anti-gravity threads since those scientific issues aren’t resolved yet in the 21st century!!!

Willful Ignorance Refuted Here

You see, that’s what I’m talking about! No more evolution threads! Every TalkOrigins link and Willful Ignorance link was already posted in 2004. We are just repeating ourselves and not evolving to ever more highly adapted debating species on the topic.

Phil,

You forget. Like the poor and the rich, there will always be evolutionists and creationists. It’s one long argument. Neither side wins, because spanking new evolutionists and creationists are born at a rate of 3.14159265 per second. That’s right; I said it – evolutionists and creationists are born, not made. It’s all genetic.😃

Ahimsa << That’s right; I said it – evolutionists and creationists are born, not made. It’s all genetic. >>

OK, then can we at least limit the creation-evolution threads to no more than 50 per day, 500 per week, and 5000 per month.

“No…more…evolution…threads”
“No…more…evolution…threads”

People chant with me…

“No…more…evolution…threads”
“No…more…evolution…threads”
“No…more…evolution…threads”

“Less filling” “Tastes great”

I still think we should just move them to a science-related sub-forum…

It would allow peace of mind for those who don’t even want to see whats being discussed…

Age of universe, evolution, cosmology, physics as applied to miracles…we could call it the ‘Skeptics Forum’ or something similar… 😃

And that would be because there is no selection mechanism operating.

There can’t possibly ever be a moratorium on EVOLUTION. The definition of the word ‘evolution’:
  1. A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form. Example: Evolution and The Catholic Church thread.
forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=74854&page=3
a. The process of developing.
b. Gradual development.
  1. Biology.
    a. Change in the genetic composition of a population during successive generations, as a result of natural selection acting on the genetic variation among individuals, and resulting in the development of new species.
    b. The historical development of a related group of organisms; phylogeny.
  2. A movement that is part of a set of ordered movements.
  3. Mathematics. The extraction of a root of a quantity.
www.dictionary.reference.com/search?q=evolution

Evolution is a labor of love! Ho! Ho! It’s a Merry Christmas present to the world. 😉

Simply said. If they distress soooo much DON’T READ THEM.
I agree. Normally the subject matter begins to go over my nonscientific head anyway, so I just skim through them. But no one forces me to read. If there was no desire for such threads, they would no longer be created.

Sometimes I think that we forget that the majority of our audience isn’t the people that we are debating with but the lurkers who are just reading the posts. Some of these lurkers will be influenced by what is written on this board.

I must be missing something, I don’t see evolutionary threads to be dominating this forum. Now, I will admit that the individual threads take on a life of their own and continue on and on for page after page, making me pity the poor moderaters.
