This past Saturday, during the Mass of the Feast of the Assumption, our Parish Priest stated that Mary was immaculately conceived and free of original sin because the Holy Spirit was her father and not her earthly father, Joachim.
Since I’d never heard it put this way, wanted to ask if our Parish Priest is confused?
What does the church teach about her Immaculate Conception?
I don’t know why the priest said that or if perhaps he was misunderstood or trying to speak metaphorically. However the Church clearly teaches that Mary was conceived in a normal human manner by her earthly parents, the only exception being that God preserved her from Original Sin.
