The thread is about the best pope, not to have non-Catholics troll the papacy in general.

For me, it would be a toss up between Pius XII (members of our family received a Papal Blessing from him which we have framed), John XXIII, Paul VI, John Paul II and Benedict XVI (I have a Papal Blessing from him and he was the Pope when my mother converted and became Catholic).

Also loved John Paul I. So much potential. Such a short tenure as Pope.

I sincerely pray that the next Pope take the name “Leo XIV” and that Leo XIII is someday made a saint as you wrote.

A Pope Leo XIV would be a great choice and the name alone represents the great combination of moral and dogmatic orthodoxy with genuine Catholic social teaching.

POPE Leo XIII. He should have been officially declared a saint imho.

Also read good things about Pius X, XI, XII.

As much as I like JP2 and reading book on him right now, it feels sketchy to have these fast track canonizations, when I feel there are a whole lot of other pope who should have been. But that is just me.

I have no idea…

For some reason, Saint Gregory the Great came into my mind though.

There is a reason why no other pope has taken the name of Peter ever since…
