Who was the greater evil? Hitler or Stalin?

Hitler - Jewish Question - Holocaust - up to 6 million executed/murdered

Stalin - Collectivization - The Great Famine - up to 14 million starved/executed

Although Hitler killed far less, he was direct in his plan, which was to kill jews. His intention was to destory the Jewish people.

Stalin was indirect, his plan was to group together the farms in the USSR. He didnt care what happened to the farmers, so starvation ensued.
 
They were equally bad.

Who keeps dreaming up these irrelevant questions? These people are dead and gone; they did their evil and God has pronounced judgement on them. I think it’s the exercise of a morbid mind to try to quantify differences that can’t be quantified.
 
im just curious, because i was never taught about stalin in school.

However, let’s not assume that either of these two are facing eternal fire. It could very well be possible that in the final moments of death they had a sincere conversion and repentance for all of their sins.

No matter how evil a person might appear to be, only God knows the final faith of their soul. Take the Good Thief for example – by his earthly actions, he should have been condemned to hell but in the final moments of life, he sought out our Lord and was saved.

You’re greatly understating the stats for Stalin. I’m positive that at least 40 million died in GULAG. It was horrible what he did. Hitler actually learned from him because Stalin was shipping political prisoners and kulaks in box cars to the frozen tundra (and just dumping them there) years before Hitler was in power.

It’s all equally bad, of course, but it is contemptible that our schools teach little or nothing about it, the main reason being that many of the textbook writers in academe are still in denial about it all, despite all the revelations out of KGB files in the early 1990s. Also, long before that, we had Solzhenitsyn and others bear witness to the ghastly system set up by Lenin & Trotsky, “perfected” by Stalin and perpetuated by Khrushchev, Brezhnev et al. Our intellectuals basically averted their eyes.

The question of who is the “greater” evil is unimportant from a theological or moral perspective. Both of them are equally responsible for the sea of innocent blood they each shed. Whether one murders one person or one thousand people, it is still murder.

There are seven deadly sins. That’s about all I can think of, unless he’s drawing on the Quran, which mentions seven gates of Jahannam, each for a different class of sinner.
