Because of my schedule, I go to church on Tuesday mornings and Saturday evenings when I can.

A few weeks ago on Tuesday, a young man gave the service who wasn’t the priest. I had never seen him before or since. I’m just curious as to what the man’s title is.

Sorry if that sounds ignorant, I’ve always been spiritual but am pretty new to religion.

if a consecration occured, then it was a visiting priest.

if not, maybe a deacon or lay person doing a communion service.

Not knowing what sort of ‘service’ this was - ie whether it was a Mass or something else, I can’t help. In fact, even knowing might not give enough of a clue.

Some parishes do have more than one priest, y’know. Some are fairly young 🙂 otherwise, the man could be a deacon, or simply a layperson presiding over something in the absence of the priest. 🤷

It was a Mass. The priest was there that day, actually, I saw him before the Mass started, he just didn’t preside over things as he usually does. Maybe that man was just a visitor, because as often as I have been there on various different days, I probably would have seen him at least one other time if he were a regular there. Too bad, 'cause that guy was awesome.

Maybe your parish has been assigned a new priest or he may be in residence for awhile or a visiting priest. We have only one priest who is the pastor. Sometimes we have a visiting priest and the visiting priest will do one of the Masses.

I think your confused. He was probably a visiting priest. Just ask your pastor next time you go to Mass.
