Who was your confirmation Saint?

I chose St. Mark

Honestly, I didn’t know many saints at the time. St. Mark was the name of the “local” diocesan Catholic High School, he had a Gospel, and I knew of a few cool guys named Mark… So I picked Mark.

If I had to do it all over, I most likely would have picked some else: St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Augustine, St. Francis of Assis, St. Thomas Becket, St. Maximilian Kobe, etc.

And if I was getting Confirmed today, I would pick John Paul II

God bless

confirmation saint in my place, so I don’t have one.
Uhhh, what?

The Bishop is supposed to say your Confirmation name then seal you with the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Whoever prepared you for Confirmation failed in a major way if they never had you choose a Confirmation saint.
It’s not a requirement. You can be Confirmed with your baptismal name. Some parishes actually don’t push Confirmation names.

Hmmm… 🙂

Well, that’s sort of interesting…

Who are you contemplating? or, perhaps, “what” is drawing your to Catholicism?

Maybe we can help suggest some options?

I dont think that matters though…

Before one can be canonized one must first be proclaimed as venerable, which is when one becomes known as “Blessed N.”… And I dont think there is a problem with having a Blessed for your name…

My Sister took Mercedes as her confirmation Saint… (I think because of the cars, doh!)… But Mercedes is/was only a Blessed the last I heard…

I’m not confirmed yet, but mine will be St. Terese of Liseaux. Really my life is just like hers. Of course she herself was always much better than I am, but I have learned a lot from her autobiography. Her book really changed me.

I think, you have made a most excellent choice… even the simplest of prayers to Saint Therese of Lisieux can invoke some of the most pious and heartfelt sentiments… I imagine a life with Saint Therese of Lisieux would be quite a blessing indeed…

St. Peter…

Odd thing is I had no idea as I had left the faith in high school and completely forgotten.
Lately it has been on my mind and I have been mulling over closing a patron saint…so last week I went to speak with Father at the Catholic grade school and church I attended as a kid and we looked it up in the old books (weird to see all those names of the kids I was with again) and it was St. Peter.
Now that I am 52 and have been back in the Church a while…it makes sooo much sense.
I did not know why I chose him back then…I barely remember anything other than it was the first time I ever wore a suit jacket, but after all these years it is like pieces of a puzzle coming together.

I have two in mind. I am thorn, though. One is my Sacred Scriptures’ teacher, and the other is my protector in keeping my chastity.

BlueMaxx. St Peter had his time being away from Christ when he denied that “I don’t know that man!” not only one, or twice, but three times. St Peter got back into communion with a great responsibility for the Church. What is needed is that intimate encounter with Christ when we realise that this is who we are to follow.

Elisabeth, John the Baptist mother, as I love the reading from the Gospel of Luke when Mary goes to visit Elisabeth. God was in Mary’s tummy and another baby, not yet born noticed! Wow!

The saints pick us and we don’t choose them. They must have their reasons…

St Jude. Years ago someone gave me a ‘Never Fail Novena’ to St Jude they clipped out of the newspaper. I was having a rough time and they thought this might give me some comfort. After studying about him I started exploring more about the Catholic church and this brought on my desire to become Catholic.

St. Augustine!

My re-version was very Augustinian in nature and I can relate a lot to his life in many ways. I also greatly admire his profound scriptural and theological insights. ‘Confessions’ is probably my favorite book of all time.

Me too! I chose him for the very same reason! Well, he technically chose me. 😃

Some desire that the confirmand uses his/her baptismal name thus emphasing the link between baptism and confirmation .
