Who Went/Is Going to Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-fil-A?

I really like Chick-fil-A. The food is excellent (as far as fast food goes), the service is very friendly at every location I’ve ever been to, and they are legitimately family-friendly (every location has a playplace and they seem like they’ve actually been cleaned regularly! )

Today is their “Cow Appreciation Day” where if you dress like a cow you get free food (either an entree for a “cow accessory” or full meal for a “head-to-toe” costume.) All of us are decked out in white T-shirts with homemade black spots, felt ears attached to a few white and black headbands I had lying around, and black bottoms with white and black felt tails. I had all the stuff to make it at home, though their website does have kits to print.

I would normally be too self-conscious for this kind of thing, but hey, I’ll do it for free Chick-fil-A. The kids are very, very excited for “cow day” and have been begging to wear their costumes ever since they got up from nap, though I’m putting it off because I don’t want them to get destroyed before dinner time.

I don’t think we’re doing it today, but we’ve done it in the past. And no matter how over-the-top your outfit, somebody else will have gone further!

Every single time I’ve traveled outside of my home turf…I make it a point to find a Chick-Fil-A and a Sonic.

It’s a novelty for our family.

I had Chick-fil-A today for lunch. I went with a friend.

Preplanned to go to Chick-fil-A. Then found out that it was Cow Appreciation Day. We went anyway and got a kick out of the funny costumes.

There’s no way I will go to that. The crowd will be horrific! There’s no chicken sandwich in the world that’s worth waiting that long! I agree though, about Chick-fil-a. Their food is decent but their employees are magical. I’ve never felt so special for drinking lemonade out of a foam cup! They have all sort of little details that show how much they care. For example, they have more than two high chairs. They have clean, accessible bathrooms with changing tables and baby seats. They have friendly people who walk around the dining room and offer to fill your drink and get you things. Everyone who works there seems so nice and happy! Unfortunately, that atmosphere doesn’t carry over to the play room. They are always overcrowded and the parents are obnoxious. I can’t really blame that on Chick-fil-a though.

I’m like that with Sonic also. The nearest one is a few hours away from me at least.

I’m not impressed with either Sonic or Chik-Fil-A. There’s a Sonic by my bank and I never go. Ordinary, humdrum burgers. Chik-Fil-A is also not convenient to me, and I don’t really care. Humdrum chicken sandwiches, served too hot to eat. I’d rather go to Jack-in-the-Box.

The only thing I like from Sonic is strawberry limeades. Their soft serve tastes like cold mayonnaise. Their food is gross.

I haven’t been to any of those. I don’t think there are any in Canada, and even if so, there definitely aren’t any in Newfoundland.

Chick-fil-A offered a deal for a nearby cafe. Sell their product and share profits, for the cafe is a non profit charity. Big guy in big cow suit. I had some; It was ok, better than I thought it would be, but

I went at noon today. Although they seemed to be extremely busy, I walked right up to the counter and we received our food within a minute of sitting down.

I don’t know that I would go at dinner time, unless I was willing to wait in line.

We got there right after 5pm and only had to wait about five minutes to order, and then our food was ready in another five (just enough time to sit, clean hands, etc.) We left around 6pm after our kids got to play in the playplace (also not very busy) and there weren’t long lines at the register then, either.

It was busier than it usually is, but I think they picked Tuesday on purpose - it’s a much slower day than other days of the week (ours has family appreciation nights on Tuesdays too, probably for the same reason).

At the beginning of baseball season they ran a promotion where if you wore the local MLB team attire you could get a free sandwich, and it was much busier that day.

Also nabbed four gift cards for free items and the kids got balloon swords and got to high five the guy walking around in cow costume, so to them, best day ever.

We didn’t do it this year, but we did do it last year. The kids had a blast creating their costumes and even made me one so we all went “dressed up”. Daddy wasn’t so keen on the idea of dressing up as well, but they gave him free food anyway for showing up with all of us . We went after I got off from work and there wasn’t really much of a line. We got our food rather quickly, although the kids were too busy playing to want to eat.

And the drive through lane was just expanded because it used to block traffic.

But maybe pensmama87 is right and they choose a Tuesday because it is normally not busy.

They do it every year in July! If I remember, will post next year in advance.

A lot of chain restaurants do free/super discounted specials over the summer in particular, though there are others throughout the year. I find out about most of them from the MoneySavingMom blog. (I don’t do a lot of them because they aren’t in our area/still are out of the budget/not something we’d be interested in), but there’s quite a few!

Ours has had a line out the door on regular Saturdays.

Ours is like that too, and it seems to be the way most ones are on Saturdays. At least around here, all of them are located very close to “destination” type shopping centers/malls, so that is likely to attract a lot of weekend business. There’s also a lot fewer of them than, say, McDonald’s. We rarely go on Saturday unless we are travelling - but then I try to avoid going anywhere on Saturday unless it’s first thing in the morning.

On exceptionally bad weather days where outside play is impossible, sometimes I’ll take the kids in the middle of the morning to go play at the playplace. For the price of an iced tea it’s well worth it, and there’s almost nobody there! Plus they have free wi-fi.
