Questions have already arisen about who will succeed Pope Benedict XVI, as of The Pope and his age.

They say that the Canadian Cardinal Ouellet (I think) is a possible candidate.

Also African Cardinal, Francis Arinze

And another is Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn, Archbishop of Vienna

I would hope also possibly in the future to see a British Pope such as current Archbishop of Westminster, Vincent Nichols…or Cardinal Ouellet of Qubec.

I would hope to see my very own Cardinal George Pell, Archbishop of Sydney a conservative (Highly unlikely)

What are peoples ideas?

Anyway let the Holy Spirit choose wisely.

Whoever will most seamlessly transition and continue HH BXVI’s gradual restoration of tradition.

Anyways, I think it’s pretty futile to try to predict this.

I want Pope Benedict XVI to be Pope for the next century or two.

It is for the Lord to decide. Not us. So speculations like these bears no good fruit.

Don’t know; don’t care (for now).

HH Pope Benedict is still alive and well (thanks be to God). I am 99% certain that the Holy Spirit won’t consult me when choosing the next Pope.

I am sure it will be someone of the inner circle. I wish Cardinal DiNardo was in the running. Either way I will pray for who ever is in office

Let us pray that does not happen. As he is not a cardinal he has, based on current practice, no chance of being elected.

Don’t speculate too hard. There’s an old saying in the Vatican: he who enters the conclave as Pope exits the conclave a Cardinal.

The next Pope will be whom the Cardinals vote for. We need only place our faith in the promise Jesus made to St. Peter.

You said it! Amen to that!

It’s useless for us to speculate right now.

I want our Holy Father Benedict to be around for a few more years!

I know it’s generally pointless to speculate, but it’s so. hard. to. resist… 😛

I think it’s fun to think about it. I guess that’s the Vaticanista in me. Of course, I know it’s not up to me and of course I trust the Holy Spirit to work it all out for the best.

John Allen wrote about three possible picks back in May: Three Possible Popes. He also mentions Ouellet. It would be unprecedented to have an American (i.e. from North or South America) pope.

Cardinal Arinze is just shy of a year away from no longer being eligible to participate in a papal conclave. Plus he’s retired. So I have my doubts about him as a possibility. I thought he was a possibility last time around.

I pray that Benedict has many happy years ahead of him, though. I’m definitely in no hurry for a new pope. 🙂
