Well, this is an interesting thread.
But here’s the problem I have. The rosary is mostly prayers focused on Mary, the Mother of Jesus. The Mass, meanwhile, focuses totally on God. I don’t want to beat up on my fellow trads, but only the commemoration prayer even makes reference to Mary so, while it is noble to say the rosary, nevertheless those that accuse Catholics of practicing too much Mariology may have a legitimate argument.

Before and after Mass, OK.

Not many people like this poll and it seems like many don’t understand why you are posting it.

But 24 people have answered it so far, with the Protestant being in the lead at 23 to 1.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

How is the rosary focused on Mary? The mysteries all focus on the life and death on earth of Jesus Christ. Name a mystery that does not focus on Christ. I’m curious. The Mass is the ultimate prayer and one should not pray the rosary during the Mass because you must fully participate in the Mass. I agree, before or after Mass is fine.😉

I believe there are at least 53 Hail Mary’s in the Rosary? How much time is really spent on thinking about the Mysteries?

Point on the Mass is excellent.

You are correct in the number of Hail Marys. If you knew anything about meditation, you would know that the Hail Mary keeps ones mind centered(not even close to a reference to centering prayer)on the mysteries. Our Lady was the first Christian as well as the mother of our Lord. Who better to lead us to her Son. Also, Why not ask for her intersession. Would she refuse her Son, the Church whom he gave her as her children? I think we should remember the scriptural basis for the Hail Mary and also remember that we are praying along with her the life of her Son. I pray the Rosary every night before I go to bed. I actually sleep better than I did before. It’s almost like my mother, our Lady, reading me a bedtime story. For a 27 year old that may sound silly, but it is true. Try it, you may just like it.

Your point well-taken.

Actually, a skilled abacus user can outperform most calculator users on simple math problems. I never used a slide rule, but IIRC it is more useful if you want to go off on a tangent of the rosary…which we have, I think. 😉

I did pray the rosary using a program on my PalmPilot a few times. It was very strange…didn’t quite feel spiritual enough.
I think you’re talking about the slide rule. 🙂 But calculators work just as well. 😉

Just be careful none of these become idols.

The Protestant would become irate and unable to cope. The Catholic can still say his rosary because he doesn’t need the beads to do it.

Sounds like you are fishing for a “one up” or “gotcha” for them poor old pro[testants] [edited by Moderator]. They got enough trouble without trying to manufacture more.

Protestants.

We sometimes accuse them of “Bible Worship”.

I stated on another thread if you really want to prove that a Protestant worships the Bible, just ask them to stop taking their Bible to chruch.
That’s silly to accuse them of Bible worship simply because they take it to church with them. What they really worship is their own fallible conscience, since they reject the infallible Magisterium of the Catholic Church.

The beads are not needful to perform the rosary devotions, the rosary is optional anyway, and there is no fundamental attachment to the rosary by MANY Catholics.

To most fundies, taking the bible to service isn’t essential, either. It’s the daily reading thereof that most would go nutso over…

However, they are more likely to resent such a request.

I don’t want to sound erudite, BUT, what is the purpose of all this. It seems more like idle chatter for the sake of idle chatter. If it for the light side OK, – I guess!!!

Here is the scenario:

A stranger comes up to a Protestant and a Catholic.

He asks the Protestant to give up “Taking his Bible to Church” for a whole year.

He asks the Catholic to give up “Taking his Rosary Beads to Mass” for a whole year.

Who would become more irate and not be able to cope?

The Protestant or the Catholic?
No offense, but this was a stupid poll!!! You need to get alife and post something with a little meaning–seriously

We are presuming that the Catholic owns a rosary, or at least knows what one is?
Exactly. I’ve been a Catholic for all of my 47 years, and I’m not even sure I can lay my hands on one in my home. But, all too frequently, I’m at the funeral home for someone in our parish, and I can say the rosary just fine without physically holding one.

On the other hand, unlike Protestants, Catholics can fully participate in the scriputure of the Mass without bringing a Bible with them, since we have the Lectionary to lay out our readings for that given day anyway, as opposed to the Protestant preachers who “wing it” each week and ask the congregation to "open your Bibles to (x)…

Most Protestant churches put the scriptures up on the overhead where they also put words to the songs we sing. I haven’t taken my Bible to Church consistently for a over a year now. I still take notes though. 😉

Now if you told me I wasn’t allowed to read it at all I’d get upset.

I gotta agree it’s a silly poll.

Has anyone noticed that this thread was started 8 months ago?

Considering I don’t take my Rosary Beads to Mass, I’d say the Protestant.

Most Protestant churches around here have pew Bibles and most congregants therefore don’t bring Bibles. Those that don’t have pew Bibles usually project the Scriptures or have them handed out on copied sheets at the beginning.

Who would become more irate and not be able to cope?
Huh?

Well, if a Catholic prayers the rosary during mass, maybe that Catholic would be inconvenienced with no beads. . . .or maybe he would just count on his fingers instead of beads.
No idea whether any would become irate (?) 🤷

If a Catholic prays his rosary at home with his family, it would seem no issue not to bring them to mass if he’s not bringing them to mass already anynow 🤷

Same idea with regard to Protestant
If you go to hear the sermon and not read your bible. . no big deal to leave it in the car or at home 🤷

😊
