Ok Guys,

So I have this Douay-Rheims Bible I’m sure many of y’all have by now. But these footnotes have bugged me ever since I got it. It seems as if the person wrote in old english to make them sound old-tyme, but they’re obviously from modern times, but not too modern. In fact, I really can’t tell where, or when, or who they’re from!
Does anybody have some background information on this precise edition?
Loreta Publications: Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire, 2004.
Plus the artwork is horrible.
If anyone knows anything about this, please tell me; it’s for my catholic studies class!

My DR-C, also from Loreto, hard cover, 2002, has very few footnotes compared to most modern translations (except RSV-CE) and they are by Bishop Challoner as previous poster states. This info is on the cover page and introduction. The maps and engravings, like the typescript, seem to be photographed and reproduced from an original ms, not re-set, so yes the reproduction of the artwork leaves a lot to be desired. The art and maps themselves are good, but the quality of the reproduction makes them muddy and hard to see.

Ooops. It appears as if I can’t read inside cover pages. Thanks guys. This is for an article I have to write on Catholicism and Scripture in the modern era.
Thank you again.
