Who wrote the Guardian Angel prayer?

Does anyone know who wrote this prayer and when was it written?
 
Interesting question! :confused:

Until I searched the Latin version of the prayer, I couldn’t find any history. The history I did find wasn’t much.

I pray this prayer every day. I know my Guardian Angel has looked out after me so many times I can’t even count. If it were not for my Guardian Angel, I’d probably be dead by now.
 
I have often wondered who wrote it. I have said it every day since I was could talk. Wonder how long it has been around.

It’s a good prayer. However, my two favorite guardian angel prayers are these:
O angel of God, my holy guardian, given to me from heaven, enlighten me this day, and save me from all evil. Instruct me in doing good deeds, and set me on the path of salvation. Amen.

O Angel of Christ, my holy Guardian and Protector of my soul and body, forgive me everything wherein I have offended you every day of my life, and protect me from all influence and temptation of the Evil One. May I never anger God by my sins, Pray for me to the Lord, that He may make me worthy of the grace of the All-holy Trinity and the blessed Mother of God, and of all the Saints. Amen.

I teach grade 2/3 in the Catholic system in Milton, ON, Canada and this is the prayer we say at the end of every day before going home…my kids love it as do I!!! 🙂
