Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Continuing in St. Louis de Montfort’s treatise, “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin”, we hear still more motives for taking up this devotion:
  1. Where Mary is present, the evil one is absent. One of the unmistakable signs that a person is led by the Spirit of God is the devotion he has to Mary, and his habit of thinking and speaking of her. This is the opinion of a saint, who goes on to say that just as breathing is a proof that the body is not dead, so the habitual thought of Mary and loving converse with her is a proof that the soul is not spiritually dead in sin.
  2. Since Mary alone has crushed all heresies, as we are told by the Church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit (Office of B.V.M.), a devoted servant of hers will never fall into formal heresy or error, though critics may contest this. He may very well err materially, mistaking lies for truth or an evil spirit for a good one, but he will be less likely to do this than others. Sooner or later he will discover his error and will not go on stubbornly believing and maintaining what he mistakenly thought was the truth.
  3. Whoever then wishes to advance along the road to holiness and be sure of encountering the true Christ, without fear of the illusions which afflict many devout people, should take up with valiant heart and willing spirit this devotion to Mary which perhaps he had not previously heard about. Even if it is new to him, let him enter upon this excellent way which I am now revealing to him. “I will show you a more excellent way.”
It was opened up by Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Wisdom. He is our one and only Head, and we, His members, cannot go wrong in following Him. It is a smooth way made easy by the fullness of grace, the unction of the Holy Spirit. In our progress along this road, we do not weaken or turn back. It is a quick way and leads us to Jesus in a short time. It is a perfect way without mud or dust or any vileness of sin. Finally, it is a reliable way, for it is direct and sure, having no turnings to right or left but leading us straight to Jesus and to life eternal.

Let us then take this road and travel along it night and day until we arrive at the fullness of the age of Jesus Christ.
Come Holy Spirit, bring us into ALL Truth, enable us to take this road!

St. John Bosco had the famous vision of how thr Church was going to succeed: he saw two pillars; the Eucharist on one, the BVM on the other. JPII took that vision seriously, it would seem.

Dear Lazybones,

Thanks so much for your reply. Personally I have no doubt in my mind Pope St. John Paul II took the vision of St. John Bosco VERY SERIOUSLY – even as he took St. Louis de Montfort’s treatise on "True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin" VERY SERIOUSLY and faithfully prayed and practiced his own Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary, from the time when he first read the book and made his own Act of Consecration until he died.

In his book, “Crossing the Threshold of Hope” John Paul II wrote that his reading of De Montfort’s book "True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin" was a turning point in his young life. How could anyone not see and hear the truth of those words in the testimony of JPII’s holy life and death?

May God give us all the graces we need to likewise love Jesus through Mary!

Dear lysander and Stephanie,

Thank you for your “hearts” which let us know you read and appreciated the words of St. Louis de Montfort from his treatise on “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin.

Lysander – Welcome to CAF!!! I noticed you just joined yesterday! I hope you will continue to read St. Louis de Montfort’s treatise - if you haven’t already read it. If you click on the title above in this reply, it will take you to the online version of this little book. I began posting from paragraph #1 - and intend to go to the end, God willing, posting a few paragraphs at a time, in order.

This book is one that needs to be read slowly, prayerfully and pondered in the heart. 🙂 If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Dear patricius,

Thanks for your faithful “heart” as well. By God’s Grace, some of us have traveled this road with Mary for a long time. Yet again and again by His Grace and Mary’s powerful intercession, we continue learning more each day ! 🙂 How Good God is! How grateful we need to be for all He has given to us!
