Whom is more annoying: Evangelical Christians (Catholics included) or Evangelical Atheists?

I have wondered about this from time to time and figured this might be a good topic to debate.
 
Without trying to start a flame war, I tend to find people who think that they have all the answers more irritating than the two options listed here.
 
Whichever side considers the other one to be stupid, dumb, ignorant, or mentally disabled.

I’m not sure if it does count both sides. In the inner religious debates however when we talk ultimate truth, that we and not our opponent have, and not faith it does seem that way.

On the internet it is the radical atheist who will bust in on a thread with any connection to faith just to say something on the level that we are fools to believe in the sky god/tooth fairy etc. And it is the radical aheirt who chooses screen names and signitures designed to ridicule those with faith.

In the real world on the other hand it is the evangelistic who rings your doorbell or ambushes you while you wait in line at the movies.
 
Please describe what you mean by “evangelical atheist?” Are you talking about atheists who try to convince people that atheism is the way, the truth, and the life? I’ve never heard this term. Thank you.
 
Flies are annoying.

Cats that try to lick your face are annoying.

Loud music from the car next to you in the traffic jam is annoying.

Dropping your change purse and spilling the contents is annoying.

“Evangelical Christians” and Evangelical Atheists (whatever that means) are NOT annoying. They are people, human beings. You may not agree with them, but to put them in the same class with flies, cats, loud music, and spilled money is to de-humanize them.

I find this type of question much more annoying than any evangelical christians or atheists I know or know of.

Hm…no, I think people can be annoying too—more to the point, each one of us can exhibit behaviors that can annoy others. I don’t care for anyone who tries to push their beliefs as the only ones that should be acceptable—from either side. Ev. Christians try to do it by pushing a “conversion” to “save you”—Ev. Atheists opt to try to block your right to pray in schools, fight anything to shows as a majority we’re a God fearing nation. Both of those behaviors annoy me.

Hey Cat,

I doubt I am the first to come up the term “evangelical atheist”, but if I am cool. Anyways, I was talking to Mirdath once and this came up. I offered that evangelical atheists can be just as annoying as any type of evangelical christian. She didn’t respond one way or another to the statement, but it got me wondering. The evangelical atheist would be the atheist who tries convince and convert those from theism to atheism. Some examples might be Sam Harris, Bill Maher, and a few others that I don’t remember their exact names.

I can say without a doubt that they would never claim to lead people to the life, just the truth and a less encumbered life.

Let me know if you have any questions. I’m for the most part going to try to sit and watch this thread develop.

If you cannot be civil when talking to people with whom you disagree, you are annoying.

• of or denoting a tradition within Protestant Christianity emphasizing the authority of the Bible, personal conversion, and the doctrine of salvation by faith in the Atonement.
• zealous in advocating something.

Both definitions would be descriptive of Evangelical Christians, the second would be descriptive of Evangelical Atheists.
 
To be honest, I don’t see how anyone can be too upset with evangelical Christians. Didn’t Jesus say, “The one who is not against us is for us?”

I was evangelical Protestant for over 40 years before converting to Catholicism. There is much that is good about evangelical Protestantism, and many evangelicals loves Jesus with a deep and self-sacrificing love that is demonstrated through their commitment to missions, charitable giving, and humble living. IMO, evangelical Protestants are the closest allies that Catholics have among the Protestants, and we are foolish to reject their overtures of friendship.

In our city right now, we are doing a 40 Days for Life prayer campaign, and the only Protestant churches that have joined with the Catholic churches are EVANGELICAL PROTESTANT churches.

My suggestion to those who are “annoyed” by them is to get to know them.

As for evangelical atheists, I believe we should pray for them. They face an empty spiritual life and a terrifying eternity.
 
I voted the Christians but actually don’t know any Atheists. I DO know Agnostics but they don’t annoy me.
The MOST annoying are the protestants who always want to tell me why I must leave The Catholic Church and get “saved”. I’m sure they mean well but their ignorance of The Faith is absolutely breathtaking and so is their refusal to listen or discuss.
 
I must admit that I was surprised when I met evangelical atheists. Didn’t see that one coming myself.

I must say I think that in the future they’ll only be more of them unless something changes.
