Regarding civic leadership, whom would Our Lord have voted for?
Yeah. This.Would He even have voted? Would not that be an inversion of authority? He’s the King of kings and Lord of lords. He is the source of authority
Inversion of authority? Did not the Son of God not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. If there was any inversion of authority, it was the ‘scandal’ of the Incarnation; God literally emptying and humbling Himself to set an example for us. Did not the Eternal Word of God incarnate Himself to the point of subjecting Himself to his human parents, both created by the Him?Would He even have voted? Would not that be an inversion of authority? He’s the King of kings and Lord of lords. He is the source of authority (see Romans 13:1-7; John 19:10-11)
http://www.newadvent.org/fathers/200158.htmAnd what He says is like this, “I am indeed free from paying tribute. For if the kings of the earth take it not of their sons, but of their subjects; much more ought I to be freed from this demand, I who am Son, not of an earthly king, but of the King of Heaven, and myself a King.”
…
See how He neither declines the tribute, nor simply commands to pay it, but having first proved Himself not liable to it, then He gives it: the one to save the people, the other, those around Him, from offense. For He gives it not at all as a debt, but as doing the best for their weakness. Elsewhere, however, He despises the offense, when He was discoursing of meats (Matthew 15:11), teaching us to know at what seasons we ought to consider them that are offended, and at what to disregard them.
We see this every day. In the US, it is both major parties, the President, and we might as well include television, film, and internet media, and the lords of commerce and finance.Luke 4:6-7
The devil said to him, “I shall give to you all this power and their glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I may give it to whomever I wish. All this will be yours, if you worship me.”
Exactly! Being King of kings, Jesus would not have to vote either. However, he would most likely to do so as to avoid unneeded offense from others.Being King of kings, Jesus didn’t have to pay that tax–He only did so voluntarily as to avoid unneeded offense from others
Does not voting cause offense among many people? Pennsylvania just has one general election day each year, but more than half the time the elections are uncontested- 1 candidate only. In 2017, there were no contested races here, and this week just two for Gov and Senator- the congress, and state legislature jobs only had a single candidate.Exactly! Being King of kings, Jesus would not have to vote either. However, he would most likely to do so as to avoid unneeded offense from others.
