My 8mo old God Daughter was just diagnosed with Pertussis (AKA: Whooping Cough)
she was born slightly premature to begin with, spent a week in the NICU at birth, and a small litany of other issues.

The entire family is now on a very strong antibiotic and things should be OK as we think we caught this in the early stages; however, no one knows when she, or her siblings, would have been exposed. Furthermore, all of the kids and family are “up-to-date” on their (childhood) vaccines as are we and (AFIK) the people we’re normally around. No-one in the anti-vaccine camp here; however, it appears that the vaccine for WC isn’t always 100% effective.

Please include our little girl and her family in your prayers.

Pertussis is highly contagious. It causes constant coughing and is spread that way. They could have got it at the grocery store. It’s my understanding that the vaccine for that doesn’t last very long and I don’t think most adults get it updated. Saying a prayer for you.

I am so sorry to hear about your God daughter’s illness.Pertussis is a terrible disease and vaccination should have protected her.Perhaps the virus is mutating and new strains are resistant to the vaccines.

I have always had my kids vaccinated against the main childhood diseases and only one child ever contracted one. After his 3rd DPT my youngest son got very sick with whopping cough disease and was nearly hospitalized. No one knows why but perhaps his immune system was too weak at the time or the vaccine was faulty.Thank God he is a healthy strong man of 25 now

– We’re not out of the woods yet… my God Daughter started with this cough about a week ago, and we just now got the test back from the labs that confirmed whooping cough today (yesterday… hmm seems I’ve crossed a day somewhere)
