What’s the deal with all the “Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon” stuff?

Hatred, just vile hatred that has been pssed down. What happen did you run into one of those websites?
 
It’s part of protestant tradition. Martin Luther identified the catholic church as the whore of Babylon and the Office of the Pope was identified as the anti-christ. Martin Luther beleived he was living in the last days therefore breaking the church into factions wasn’t a big problem since the concpet of church was thrown out since the end of days was coming anyways the church has no further role to play as it was down to a remnant that remnant being Lutherans of course.

Considering I am here writing this 500 years later I would conclude Luther was wrong and looks like an idiot along with the many other protestants who have claimed they were living in the last days and the catholic church was the whore of babylon and the pope was the anti-christ.
This is a tradition of man that has been going on 500 years.
I beleive the Wels and LMCS Lutheran denoms still state in their statement of belief that the Pope is the anti-christ.
Hey guys feel free to get out of the middle ages anytime.
500 years is a long time hold a grudge people.

Rev 17:9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.

This is the scripture that some get it from. I don’t believe in the rapture since it is not anywhere in scripture that I know of but this is where they get it.
The woman being the catholic church, seven mountains being that Rome is called the city that sits on seven mountains or hills.
 
There’s just one teensy weensy problem with this “seven hills” business.
The city of Rome itself sits on seven hills.

Vatican city sits across the Tiber River away from the city.
Vatican city DOES NOT sit on seven hills.

The whore is a city. Most assume it is Rome, while some make the arguement for Jerusalem.

Did Martin Luther himself advance that theory? I understand that he moved Revelations out of his Bible and to an unnumbered appendix.

It was later protestents that moved the book back in.

I don’t use that argument. I’m an RC not a VC.

These passages in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew describe what’s known as the woe’s Christ spoke to the leaders in Jerusalem. Followed by a passages in Revelation describing the whore of Babylon.

Too bad the Vatican is on the other side of the Tiber, making it not one of the 7 hills of Rome.

So you’re saying they are not one in the same? You’re saying the Pope is not the Bishop of Rome?

I know Rome has seven hills and I know what it says in the Bible. I don’t try to run and hide with semantics.

We won’t convince anyone with those tactics.

Yeah, except that the seat of the Papacy is not St. Peter’s but the Lateran Basilica.

Anyone have any idea on what “hill” Lateran stands? I’d sure like to know. Some fundamentalists might get smart and point out that “oh, but you Catholics admit that the seat of the Papacy is the Lateran and not the Vatican, and the Lateran is on blah blah blah therefore whore of Babylon blah blah blah…”
