I sincerely believe it is prophecy and some of the book has yet to come to pass(The last few chapters), nevetheless it was the Roman Empire which was brought to it’s knees by the faith of Christ.

IMO, in interpreting “the whore of Babylon” one should look at the original Babylon in Genesis 11.

That’s the original Babylon. Babylon comes up again later in Jewish history.

In both cases, when it enters OT history, it’s a strong secular society, the current “world” power, that in some sense sets itself up as god.

Thank you I heave learned a lot. I recently watched the Time Life DVD of Apocalypse with Richard Harris and was very moved when he stood before the Holy Martyrs who were first into the New Jerusalem. It was amazing, although very sad in parts.I always think it is part of what St Paul says ‘seeing a dim image in a mirror’. We see like a TV picture full of pixels and some are not working because they are corrupted.So we can only see imperfectly. Then there is the Judgement and then the New Order with Eden restored. It was Rchard Harris last film I think and the most profound.Then we shall see clearly what our life should have been, with death gone. I think it is very relevant to Catholics today. The Beast is still there. I don’t think anyone should accuse anyone else.If we are frightened of anyone we are giving them power over us and there is no room in the heart for judging others. In fact we have good news from the UK. The Anglican Church in England is in talks with Rome about coming into communion with each other and shortly there will be a joint statement. If there is, there will be huge rejoicing in heaven. Because of the huge influx of Catholics from Eastern Europe, there will soon be more churchgoing Catholics than Anglicans. All Catholics have prayed to \Mary for England to come back into communion with Rome. England was known as Our Lady’s Dowry and recently all the holy shrines at Walsingham, St Winefride of Wales, Our Lady of Knaresborough have received huge numbers of visitors Now Anglicans and Catholics are coming together to fund a new statue in honour of Our Lady at Tintern. The abbey was descrated and sacked by Henry VIII but the Cistercian Abbot of Caldey gave a wonderful homily at Vespers in front of hundreds of Catholics and Anglicans which I have posted on youtube with the title of Living Stones of Tintern and there is sme footage of the New statue and its consecration there in two parts. The Statue of Our Lady of Tintern was miraculous and it seems with all the enthusisam she is bringing us all together. So Revelation is beginning to work, we are coming together, and the Abbot, Archbishop of Cardiff and Abbots and monks, and holy sisters Catholic and Anglicans all making this happen. The new statue will be dedicated and blessed in May. It is an exact mediaeval copy.We have nothing to fear if we all stick together.Evil will not take devout Anglicans who are in despair at the moment…The homily of the Abbot was wonderful!

If the bunny is referring to the religion (since by current non-Islamic scholars the Koran seems to be a retelling [via different diacritical marks for different vowels] of a Syrio-Coptic lectionary [early Catholic rite in what is now Iraq])

bunny may be correct.

The quote itself from her does not mention the people who follow Islam (Allah wants ‘obedience’ from his believers, not Love) but “islam” which I took to mean those goofy suras and hadith about the bleeding woman with the serpent and other singular “words from Allah.”

Besides, I am sure our Moslem brothers and sisters will understand that Bunny meant no harm, since her Faith was founded by a minor prophet who was setting the stage for the Big Guy, Mohammed, with the Real Revelation.

The new staue of OUr Lady of Tintern has been finished and will be viewed on Saturday. There is a news item (Don’t know if you can get BBC Wales on American Sky or satillite tonight at 6.15 our time)or try ourladyoftintern.co.uk . It will be consecrated inSeptember and a new foundation for catholicism laid as the mother gathers new children for her son) We have a lot of hope after the dreadful events ofpast days.

I probably should apologise for the above remark. My sense of humour gets me into such situations at times.

To preface (if one can preface a remark afterwards, which I suppose one cannot…hmmm) my mom is an ardent believer in the “Whore of Babylon” as the Catholic Church and the other “Left Behind” version of Revelations.

She is a Lutheran nominally, but much more of an ardent Calvinist with very anti-Catholic views. So I’ve heard a lot of this stuff my entire life.

So I try to use humour, as the poster above said, to avoid weeping.

It is not for us to either no or judge who or who is not in hell.

‘Judge not and you shall not be judged as you judge others so you yourself will be judged’! Mt 7 : 1-2

Revelation Chapter 18 identifies the Whore of Babylon as the entity which killed the “apostles.” “Rejoice over her, O heaven, O saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her!” (Rev. 18:20). “Apostles” were those chosen leaders who saw the Risen Christ, the last of whom was Paul (1 Cor. 15:7-9; 1 Cor. 9:1). Those First-Century Apostles were martyred by the Pagan Roman Empire.

Next time somebody tells you the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon, ask them which “apostles” the Catholic Church killed. When they stare blankly, say, “You know, like Revelation 18:20 says.”
