Who's getting the flu shot?

Yes, I will be getting a flu shot. Perhaps some who say they got sick from the shot had already been exposed to the virus, but were not showing any symptoms as yet. Please everyone get a flushot so we can keep to a minimum the number of fatalities should the bird flu strike! YOU CANNOT GET THE FLU FROM THE VACCINE.
The flu shot is not for the bird flu.

By the way I am at high risk and no I’ve never gotten the shot. I did get the flu last year -first time since I don’t know when. It was nasty but I survived.🙂 My mom has gotten sick twice after receiving the flu shot. She still gets them every year -nervously. Everyone says that can’t happen but I heard quite a few people say they’ve experienced it.

Unless my doctor throws a fit about it I probably won’t.

The flu shot is not for the bird flu.

Of course the influenza vaccine is not for the avian flu, however if thousands have contracted viral influenza and already have compromised immune systems, it would seem that avian flu would spread more rapidly.

I’ve never had one before, but I’m considering it for myself this year.
Last year I had a horrible experience with the flu… my temperature spiked to 106 deg F, and I wasn’t doing well at all.
I usually prefer to avoid immunizations unless they’re life threatening diseases… but last year it actually was life threatening!

My kids won’t get the flu shot unless I can find a thimerisol-free version. Thimerisol is a derivative of mercury that is used as a preservative in some vaccines (actually, the flu shot is the only one that still uses it). In kids’ developing brains, mercury has the potential of causing lots of damage. It’s not as damaging to the developed brains of adults.

The “cure” is worse than the disease…

Unless you’re very young, or very old, or have a “weak” constitution I’d roll the dice…
Depends. If you are the primary caregiver in your house, then this would not be a good argument. In my home where I am the sole parent, my lil kiddies would be in a heap 'o trouble if I were to get the flu and be down for a week or two.

I had the flu a few years back and I do not want to revisit that ever again.

We are all getting the shot. It’s my job as the sole parent to try and stay healthy.

The whole family gets the flu shot every year. We’re fortunate in that it’s paid for in Canada by the government so it’s free for every citizen. Never had any problems with the flu shot and have no qualms about getting it for us all.

I get the flu jab but only because my boss, whom I work closely with, had a lung transplant 18 months ago and it is essential he avoids contact with as much infection as possible. If not for that I wouldn’t bother.

My children are definitely getting the shot as they have every year. If I wouldn’t give them the shot, and they would catch the flu, and become hospitalized or deathly ill, I would never forgive myself for not protecting them against a disease that I KNOW has taken so many lives (young and old) in the past.

I will probably get the shot also.

The years we’ve gotten them, maybe one person gets a cold, but no flu. The years we haven’t- UGH!!! I work in a school, and am NOT ending up in the ER again because I can’t stop either end.

Me and my 80 year old mother. I haven’t had the flu in over 30 years, but it makes her feel better and we live together so I don’t want to infect her just in case.

My parish is giving them a week from Sunday. 🙂

**Its a common myth that you can get the flu from the flu shot. **
:amen: Preach it, Brother (or Sister)! When you “get” the flu from the shot, it’s a set of mild symptoms that might last, at most, for a couple of days. Compared with the flu, this is a no-brainer: Two weeks in bed, fevers >102, gut-wrenching coughs for weeks on end . . . All these people who say “I don’t get the flu” – God keep them well. I have had a flu 3 times. I still have residual nerve damage in my ears.

No thanks! I’ll take my chances with the shot: and did!

I will not be getting a flu shot. I’d rather catch a cold (which I seldom do) than have mercury and whatever else the govt isnt being honset about, injected into my system. Society is too fallen at this point for me to trust people in power.

already got mine the day the doctor got them, when I get the flu I land in the hospital and am sick for weeks afterward, I have asthma and diabetes so it is life-threatening for me. I also get a pneumnia shot every 10 yrs. MIL lives with us in the winter and has a compromised immune system, so I would get it for her sake, since I am around kids so much.

Never ever had a flu shot, neither has DS or DH. Doubt we will do so this year. Lots of handwashing seems to do the trick for us 🙂

Hmmm, that’s a pretty strong reaction–distrusting the government AND society–all over a flu shot. As a Catholic centrist, you might considering modulating such views. It isn’t healthy for you.

And yes, I will get a flu shot. I am around the General American Public enough that even frequent hand washing is not enough protection. And for the record, I DO trust not only the government, society, and the medical establishment with my health–although I am highly educated, I am not a medical doctor.

Flu shots do absolutely NOTHING to prevent bird flu.

Flu shots only prevent (when they have the right strains in the vial) against influenza types A and B - and only 5-20% of the population gets that kind of flu every year. Everything else “flu-ish” is ILI - and flu shots don’t do anything for that.

Bird flu is a different matter altogether. A vaccine for that isn’t even available yet.

Its a common myth that you can get the flu from the flu shot.
But it DOES raise your chances of getting ILI (influenza-like illness) which is often misdiagnosed by both patient and physician to BE the flu - so one could easily believe they got sick from the shot.

Thats not what I meant. Those in power over society is what I meant.
