BTW, only one creation story if you really read carefully. BTW, I’ve been told it is not uncommon for someone else to write the ending to an autobiography like someone probably did for Moses.

Hi. Unlike Akhenaten’s “monotheism”, Moses [and the Torah proclaimed] not just “monotheism” but “ethical monotheism” - a very big distinction. The Jews were the first to introduce the idea of ethical monotheism into the world, as I understand. Freud has nothing on Moses.😉 The question of when the ancient Israelites substantially made the transition from henotheism to strict monotheism is another question.

Have you ever read the journal Tikkun edited by Rabbi Lerner and meant as a counterpoint to the right-wing Commentary put out by Norman Podhoretz with contributions sometimes from Soloveitchik’s son I think?

Yes indeed, but these Gnostic texts and the others were written, unlike Paul’s letters and the Four Canonical Gospels we recognize, from between 120 A.D. - 300 A.D., sometimes in Copt. The Letters of Paul are all within the 40s to the 60s A.D. and our Four Gospels run in authorship, on conventional counts, between 55 A.D. to 95 A.D., within witnesses to Christ’s life.

The Gnostic texts are also permeated with a Dualism which sees the physical as evil, and only the pure spirit good. The Gnostics wagered this evil (in their minds) physical world was created by a Demiurge. This is not Christian, and the later date of its authorship shows that it wasn’t received from the Church’s early members. Indeed, the whole approach of Gnosticism was anti-Christian in that, unlike Christ’s message of proclaimed Salvation, the Gnostics believed that secret esoteric knowledge was the key to “knowing” God.

It’s only lately, with certain biblical scholars trying to be “hip”, that these extra-canonical texts are reinterpreted to reflect something (i.e. esoteric divine sparks) as opposed to the traditional Christian message. Radical chique is always acceptable in theology and Church history departments at our universities.

I’ve flipped through it before. I was reading a bunch of Joel Kovel last night (and Chomsky, guess what subject?) last night, and I guess he writes for them.

All the information has been posted- if you bother to read them along with links.Again it is a lie that all the Deuterocanonical were written in Greek.If they were not lying then they are woefully ignorant.Either way they are unreliable.
