There’s been a lot of talk recently about God’s existence and what religion He ‘belongs’ to. So that’s really my question.

What religion does God ‘belong to’?

That’s like asking what species is the Kingdom of Animalia.

I wouldn’t say that God belongs to a religion, though I would say that He is revealed most completely in the Catholic Church.

Whichever one I’m a member of, of course. 😉

A good way to put it 👍

But how would you explain this to a Muslim or, better yet, a person who doesn’t believe in organized religion?

That is a process; one has to be patient and answer said Muslim/non-organized-religioner’s questions to the best of one’s abilities, pray, and reach each individual person on whatever level he or she is currently on. I cannot answer the question outright, because there is no formula.

He’s everybody’s God, and we are all His creation.

That is a fact regardless of whether those people know Him or not. They believe different things about Him, but it’s the same Absolute going from any direction.

odd question, Jesus was a Jew, but he established the Catholic Church, so i guess you could say he is Catholic, but to do that would be to say that he is a sinner like us, but that is not the case, so i would say His religion is being God. the religion he established with Abraham was Judaism, but Jesus later fulfilled Judaism with the establishment of Catholicism… God is not a religion, but he established the Church so that they could worship Him properly and be saved

Religion is the forum through which one worships GOD, so GOD cannot belong to “a” religion. However GOD did establish “an organized” religion - read Numbers and Deuteronomy ( maybe Leviticus ) and see the detail that GOD prescribed to Moses on all the materials, clothing, process and procedures that HE wished to be followed so that HE would be worshiped according to HIS “organization”, and this was not a Catholic religion, it was “The Jewish Religion”.

Recall that when JESUS was teaching HE proclaimed that HE “…did not come to change one jot of the law…” paraphrase. A “jot” being a “period” in english. So, JESUS did not come to “reorganize” a new Catholic faith, HE came to give the Chosen People HIS Body & Blood - HIS Soul & Divinity. And, recall the last supper, which was the Jewish Passover Seder Meal - which JESUS converted into the Sacrament of the Mass. Again, HE was working within the Jewish Religion, not creating a new faith.

Recall also, that Abraham allowed divorce, but when JESUS came HE changed that rule, demonstrating what GOD has always done for the Chosen People, which is to move them from the 400 years of slavery and idol worship to the full understanding of YAHWEH, which they lost during the Egyptian slavery. Moving them toward living for GOD, again - as HE wished it to be organized.

It was a very slow process, and GOD moved them slowly with miracles and prophets, but at the end by sending HIS own SON, JESUS to teach The Chosen People the Truth, the Way, and the Life that GOD wanted them to embrace.

We know the outcome, but the Catholic faith is the continuation of the “organized religion” that GOD formed with Abraham and Moses. Many Jew’s embraced the advent of the new “organization”, which JESUS taught, but unfortunately most did not, which allowed you and I , as gentiles, to join this organized religion. The only reason we are not Jewish today, was the rejection of the concept of consuming the Body & Blood of JESUS, which was the point of teaching where JESUS followers fell away from 5,000 back to the original 12.

The name CATHOLIC was not imprinted on the continuation of this first “organized religion” until 101AD. JESUS did not name a new faith, St. Ignatius of Antioch did accidently, not intentionally.

The Jewish and Catholic Faiths will be rejoined back into one at the time when the few remaining survivors of the Nation of Israel acknowledge that JESUS is their Messiah.

Whose God is He? He’s the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and their heirs and successors.

Julian,

Thank you for one of the best history lesson I’ve read in a long time. So well done!!!

The others bring up some very valid Old Testament scripture. Here is one that I haven’t seen them use (unless I accidentally missed a post or part of a pot).

“For God so love the WORLD He gave His only begotten Son, that whomever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”-John 3:16

God loves the WORLD, not just a group of us who worship Him and His Son. He sent Jesus for the benefit of all of us. Some people refused to believe that Jesus was godly, a part of what wasn’t identified until later as the Holy Trinity.
The fact that others have rejected what God has given them-a new law, a new Ark of the Covenant-are blind and living in denial.

Also, somewhere in Revelations I’m pretty sure it says that God will judge the entire world, not just the Christians.

God Bless You! 👋

God created all people for Himself. But there is only One True Eternal God, correct?
The only God to prove Himself to humanity was the God of Judaism. His promises, His protection, His Covenants with His people through Abraham, Moses, and all the prophets, and His promise of a Messiah, from the line of David, who would die and save His people from their sins, establish the New Covenant, and establish the everlasting Kingdom of God.
The only God to prove Himself, kept His promises, delivered the Messiah, who was the only begotten Son of the Father, who ratified the Old Covenant, and established the New Covenant with his death and resurrection. Who established His Church on the rock of Peter, the first Bishop of Rome, from whom descends all Popes and Bishops. This is the One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic Church of Rome. Christ proclaimed it infallible and eternal.

Hence, through just plain reason and God’s revelation to humanity in all history, it’s clear to me that the One, Holy, Eternal God and Father resides in the Church of His Son, The Roman Catholic Church.

But, God is for all people. Not for some. He wants, desires, and calls all to Himself, in the Church of His Son, the ‘rock of Truth and Life.’
