In the Ordinary Form, it is a tad too long. But in the Extraordinary Form, it is the perfect length, as evidenced here. This is not really a liturgical requiem since it is too long for practical use.
I wouldn’t really say it’s the “perfect length,” and I’ve been to more than one Mass in which Mozart’s Requiem was used. Actually, it delays the liturgical action by about 20 minutes during which the priest must basically twiddle his thumbs, and it strongly tends to turn the whole Mass into a concert (and is usually advertised that way), all in violation of nos. 22 and 23 of Tra le sollecitudini. In the Ordinary Form, it is a tad too long. What I meant was that the EF is more suited for its use. For example, the two–movement Sanctus and Benedictus could be used as intended, during the Canon.I wouldn’t really say it’s the “perfect length,” and I’ve been to more than one Mass in which Mozart’s Requiem was used. Beautiful music, though.
