When a baby is baptised, the baby is given a saints name and at confirmation, a different name is chosen, why not use the same name as the baptismal name?
The object of receiving a name is the receiving of a special patron saint. At Confirmation one is certainly free to choose the same patron one received at Baptism. But at Confirmation one is given the opportunity to have a patron of one’s own choosing.
