Hi my question is this, why is the Catholic church saying evolution does not negate or disprove the biblucal creation and appears to be accomodating it, when the present fossil records that Darwin believed would prove his ‘theory’ has shown just the opposite is true, as the fossil records show without any doubt that it cannot account for all the creatures that exist today? Many scientists are rejecting the theory of evolution but it is still been propagated against the proof to the contrary in the same way that the earth revolving around the sun was rejected. So why does the catholuc church bow down to Darwin when his was not even a true theory in the scientific sense of the word where theoriea have to be proven. Even most of thw honinids found were reconstructions from a piece of tooth here and a femor from downstream and even a full hominid doea not mean we desdended from it. Why doesnt the church just say okay as much as you want ua to prove the existence of God, ptove to us Darwin was right? An increasibg number of scientists are rejecting evolution as the amount of fossils found even to date fail dismally to vindicate Darwin.

Because the science is overwhelming and undeniable.

You can’t bury your head in the sand because you don’t want to admit the truth.

The Earth and the Universe are billions of years old, and evolution happened, period.

Intelligent design is a much better explanation.

Pope Benedict’s Easter Homily - Creative Reason
“The creation account tells us, then, that the world is a product of creative Reason.” - perhaps the pope would like IDvolution. Pope Benedict: Easter brings us to the side of reason, freedom and love “It is not the case that in the expanding universe, at a late stage, in some tiny corner of the cosmos, there evolved randomly some species of living being capable of reasoning and of trying to find rationality within creation, or to bring rationality into it. If man were merely a random product of evolution in some place on the margins of the universe, then his life would make no sense or might even be a chance of nature. But no, Reason is there at the beginning: creative, divine Reason.”

If evolution happened where are sufficient fossil records to prove it? You have none to date period and Darwin was hoping for then ‘in the future’ as he admited there were 'inconsistenciea in his ‘theory’

Look up what scientific theory demands to be accepted as such.

I don’t mean to sound harsh - but you’re vastly ignorant about this.

No problem it’s your opinion abd right to thibk so and that of countless other Darwin fans. I cant snd links to use as reference as i am new here so I will say that the Darwin diehards will never realize that their clunging to Darwin is just an obtuse act of faith and based on being against any ’ anti -naturalistic alternative. ’

Flew would also have believed I am ignorant thats until he changed his mind be it at an advanced age i think that what is ignorant is the way evolutuon is still taught in schools as if it were truth itself. Happily today we know that the sun ia not an average star as we were taught at school but rather big conpared to what has been found to consist mainlyof red dwarfs.Even though yes there us sirius, canis majotis etc.

Heretic: One Scientist’s Journey from Darwin to Design

What happens when an up-and-coming European bioscientist flips from Darwin disciple to Darwin defector? Sparks fly. Just ask biotechnologist Matti Leisola. It all started when a student loaned the Finnish scientist a book criticizing evolutionary theory. Leisola reacted angrily, and set out to defend evolution, but found his efforts raised more questions than they answered. He soon morphed into a full-on Darwin skeptic, even as he was on his way to becoming a leading bio-engineer.

Heretic is the story of Leisola’s adventures making waves–and many friends and enemies–at major research labs and universities across Europe. Tracing his investigative path, the book draws on Leisola’s expertise in molecular biology to show how the evidence points more strongly than ever to the original biotechnologist–a designing intelligence whose skill and reach dwarf those of even our finest bioengineers, and leave blind evolution in the dust.

" As a young student, I used to laugh at those who, as I thought, placed God in the gaps of our scientific knowledge. This God-of-the-gaps criticism is often leveled against Christians and other religious believers, against all those who insist there is clear evidence of design in nature. To my way of thinking, such people lacked the patience and level-headedness that I possessed. It was so clear to me: Instead of plugging away to discover the natural mechanism for this or that mystery about the natural world, these pro-design people threw up their hands and used the God-did-it explanation as a cover for ignorance.

This criticism of intelligent design proponents struck me as reasonable, so I didn’t listen to their arguments. But eventually I came to realize that this criticism cuts both ways, since a functional atheist also can reach for pat explanations in the face of mystery. It’s just that for him, the pat explanation will never be God. That is, you do not need God in your explanatory toolkit in order to short-circuit careful scientific investigation and reasoning. I realized that I myself had been all too willing to stuff vague materialistic explanations into the gaps of our scientific knowledge….
Code:
Also, their argument for entertaining only material explanations in the sciences just assumes that everything we find in nature has a purely material cause. But what if that assumption is wrong? What if there are features of the natural world — the laws and constants of nature itself, for instance — that really are the work of a creative intelligence?

Scientists are supposed to investigate mysteries with an open mind, not assume an explanation from the outset. I came to see that the best pproach is to evaluate which explanation among the live options is more logical and fits the facts better."

Hi Brittant i agree with buffalo and the point is i hear talks on Catholic radio where the priesta say evolution and the Bible are not in conflulict on creation i disagree personally more and more scientists are refutibg and rwjecting Darwin i am talking about folks with IQ higher than my cars speedo limit who now reject evolution either in part or entirely along with a self created universe. Just saying there is no need in these radio talks to say 'evolution does not oppose Genesis etc. No doubt i will be lambasted here eapecially by acientists and students but that’s my take on things there are equally as many clever scientists that will never allow a non naturalistic creation to get its foot in the door as one of them put it.

Dogma’s fine. I have heard very strange things at tines and one even said that God is so merciful that if the enemy repebned he would be forgiven. This i dont understand as does that mean everyone in the wrobg place gets to exit then? But i kbow this is not dogma at least as far as i know and a hypothetical ‘what if’

Think i have said enough for the day i heard these things on radio veritas on the foreign transmission from the usa. Apologies for stupid discussions on my part

@Prayerman, Welcome to Catholic Answers Forums!

You might not be aware that we already have a raging discussion on Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. To bring you up to speed, I’ve listed a series of links below… Please read these through and see if there is anything they forgot to mention:

Maybe you’re reading the science books written by Betsy Devos. Try reading some by actual scientists!

Do you have an earth science degree of any kind?
Geology?Anthropology?

Would you make prouncements on chemistry or physics if you didn’t know what you were talking about?
Why not?

How about theology?
Scripture study?

If you are not well educated in these areas (99% of us are not…), why wouldn’t you simply begin to learn about these things like you would any other subject?

I do have a geology degree, and I can tell you definitively, as would any other serious scientist, including a wide array of Catholic scientists…evolution of species is proven fact. Fossil records offer overwhelming proof of this along with tons of other scientific evidence. Not all the dots are connected (if they were, no need for science…) but the work is ongoing, and the scientific principles at work are definitively demonstrated. The denial of them is insanity. (sorry, but let’s just tell it like it is)
The Catholic Church rejects insanity. Definitively.

The fossil record does not show abrupt appearance, stasis and variation within? And no convergent evolution?

Fossil records show the whole range of development. It’s one piece of the puzzle. Fossils provide a glimpse into the past, and demonstrate change through time.

You will object that this and that are not demonstrated by fossils. Ignorance doesn’t disprove knowledge.
Of course, if we knew everything, we wouldn’t need science. Right?

You agree with this then: The fossil record does show abrupt appearance, stasis and variation within, And convergent evolution.
