I’m not a Mormon, never was, and don’t think I know any either.

Having said that though, I’m repulsed by Protestant and Catholic attacks on The Latter Day Saints. These are people, Mormons, who:
  1. Are more pro life than some “catholics”
  2. Are even against birth control (I think…all I know is that they usually have big familes!
  3. Are against same-sex marriage. Strongly
  4. Believe strongly in Chastity (and I think studies show that teen Mormons lead the way in that one)
  5. Are on the right side in the culture war on virutally every issue.
  6. Seem like wonderful people who even have a family game night and focus strongly on being anti-divorce
Yes, in this increasibly secular society, let’s attack The Church of Latter Day Saints.

I KNOW it’s not just Catholics who bash them.

But let’s get a grip people.

I frankly don’t care about peoples beliefs. I care deeply about there actions. Let’s unite with the mormons on issues we care about and stop the fighting!

I do not see what is going on here as “Mormon Bashing”. This is a Catholic website, we will not be promoting a non-catholic (even non-christian) religion.

While they might have some of the truth, as you have pointed out, they do lack the fullness of the Faith.

They also have much that is not true, such as believing that God the Father has a physical body. The Great Apostacy that they believe in is a great affront to the Catholic Church.

I think on social issues that threaten family values Catholic and Mormons do work together. I have mentioned on this site my admiration of what Mormons did in California with prop 8 - and I have defended the name of Mormons against people who have called them “bigots” for their efforts to prevent the legality same sex marriage.
That being said, the teachings of the Mormon church that delineate from Catholic teachings are false. It doesn’t do anyone any favors to ignore heresy. I do not know the state of the souls of a single Mormon, just I do not know the soul of any Catholics - that is purely up to God to know. However, that does not make their doctrine any less skewed.

are you serious. its as obvious as the nose on your face is.they may be nice and all the reasons you gave , and no one saying not to like them.but i do put mormons one step under jehovah witnesses.for the obvious reasons.

i dont call them bigots for those reasons, but maybe racist for other resons that they teach in their own literature.

YES.

They have different beliefs than Catholics. They are bashed, for the simple fact, that their truth, is different than the Catholic truth.

Yes, sadly this is true and I know what doctrine you are referencing. Though in fairness I do not think most Mormons today even know of that doctrine, it gets swept under the rug a lot now-a-days.

the big joke is, thats not the only reason.and the bashing comes from every religon and non religon group .because its so obvious that their wrong and have no real proof on what they say or read from their author in the early 1900’s.

I think the fair thing to say is that every religion is bashed in some sort of forum (whether online or not)

of course we have to respect our neighbors’ ,but its not nice to lie and make things up

I am very serious sir. As I said, I think that there is to much Mormon bashing in the non latter day saint world. I stand by what I said.

Probably Mormons are gullible idiots who believe that God is a man who had actual sex with Mary, that women can only be saved by having as many kids as possible to bring their husbands glory in the after life, and that being black is God’s judgement but if a black person becomes righteous she or he will turn white! I guess that explains Michael Jackson! Finally, at death you’ll be judged by God and Joseph Smith.
As for queer marriage, a woman’s right to choose, and every thing else that keeps the world in progress:
Keep Church and State separate as Jesus commanded: “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things which are God’s”

You are right. I have said many times that catholics need to change their tactics on this forum. Instead of bashing and acting unchristian, show love and charity to all people of other faiths. Follow the way of Saint Therese and Mother Theresa in showering the world with roses and doing saintly things in small unassuming ways. But…such ideas fall on death ears on the threads that deal with mormons and mormonism.

You need to upgrade your ideas. Start here.

The choice of words against mormons is quite surprising. I suppose that one can claim that all the attacks against the lds are directed by satan. Destroy that which is good. But christians should know better and show love.

No one is bashing Mormons. What we are criticizing is Mormon Church teachings. Yes, many Mormons are fine people in spite of their false religion. That is irrelevant. When any church sends out 50,000+ missionaries at any time going door-to-door teaching that my religion is an abomination, I am going to defend my faith.

You, Rascalking, like the Mormons, don’t seem capable of distinguishing between Mormons and Mormon-ism. It is the latter of which we are critical. Mormons always respond to critiques of their doctrines with a non-sequitur defending their personal character, as in:

Christian: “Your doctrine on the nature of God is wrong and unbiblical.”

Mormon: “What do you mean, wrong? I am a nice person who loves my family. Why are you persecuting me?”

I am a former Mormon, by the way. So I know whereof I speak.

Er…this is a specific sub forum of this Catholic website, entitled ‘non-Catholic religions.’

It was formed specifically for the discussion of those religions, not Catholicism. Presumably it was done so in order to get those discussions OFF of forums devoted to purely Catholic topics.

Am I so out of line to think that a little respect for the faith of those non-Catholic religions is in order here? Perhaps not as much as you insist that we respect Catholicism, but, well…some?

Not ‘belief in,’ but 'respect for."
