Well…I have been reading Chesterton recently, but more Lewis (and Kreeft)…and I when I know I am quoting something I try to go find the quote to point people to the source…because my memory is bad, and I like to give credit where it’s due.
But on the other hand my memory must be working because I am at least internalizing/absorbing something from these great thinkers and writers!
On that particular one, I don’t remember having come across that one recently…but I must be infected by the rhythm / structure of Chesterton logic/humor that when some argument fits…I fit it into Chesteron form in copy cat fashion.
The last original thought I had was recently when I was reflecting on my “tiredness” (I had a serious operation about 2 months ago). I’ve been some overwhelmed recently with tiredness…I got off the meds…getting sleep, but feel tiredness.
It finally hit me that my tiredness was in danger of becoming a case of a lack of “self-forgetfulness”…in a way a pitying of my self…I am too tired to empty the dishwasher…too tired to climb stairs to say good night to my sons…etc.
The somewhat original thought I had was that God wants even my tiredness…he wants me to get that out of the way…in order to love others, particularly my family. It’s getting in the way.
It’s not purity or some other vice…now, it’s “tiredness”. I believe this insight has helped me recover my vitality. Strange.
Cheers.
