willis88 - you came here with a problem - you got all these responses. If you still choose to classify yourself as friendless and lonely when you have all of these perfect strangers that care about the state of your soul than you are choosing your own suffering so in this case - is it God or you that has chosen your pain and in that case whose sin is it?

That the existence of suffering disproves God is like saying the existence of pleasure proves that God exists…
Someone has been reading his G.K. Chesterton. I don’t know if you know it or not, but you quoted something right out of his book, “Orthodoxy.” If you were aware of that, good job tieing that into this thread. If you didn’t know that and you came up with it independently then you should start writing philosophy books. 👍

Well…I have been reading Chesterton recently, but more Lewis (and Kreeft)…and I when I know I am quoting something I try to go find the quote to point people to the source…because my memory is bad, and I like to give credit where it’s due.

But on the other hand my memory must be working because I am at least internalizing/absorbing something from these great thinkers and writers!

On that particular one, I don’t remember having come across that one recently…but I must be infected by the rhythm / structure of Chesterton logic/humor that when some argument fits…I fit it into Chesteron form in copy cat fashion.

The last original thought I had was recently when I was reflecting on my “tiredness” (I had a serious operation about 2 months ago). I’ve been some overwhelmed recently with tiredness…I got off the meds…getting sleep, but feel tiredness.

It finally hit me that my tiredness was in danger of becoming a case of a lack of “self-forgetfulness”…in a way a pitying of my self…I am too tired to empty the dishwasher…too tired to climb stairs to say good night to my sons…etc.

The somewhat original thought I had was that God wants even my tiredness…he wants me to get that out of the way…in order to love others, particularly my family. It’s getting in the way.

It’s not purity or some other vice…now, it’s “tiredness”. I believe this insight has helped me recover my vitality. Strange.

Cheers.

Because of suffering in the world? kidding me?
Alright buddy listen up. Every single person was also designed to help others. Every single person in this world is to help others and to help others be happy. Have you ever bought something expensive that you didnt need? Something that was not generic brand?
Guess where the extra money could have went to? It could have went to charity. People do things and spend their money on useless things on a daily basis. They do it so much that they dont even REALIZE what it could be going to! Jesus made his life to serve others and to try to help and make people happy. You think he’d get a paycheck and buy a bunch of things in the mall? Doubtful, hed probably use it to help others! Out of 7 billion humans there is no excuse why we can’t all be living a happy life due to help with one another.
Blue…well said. Infinite opportunities for love or for selfishness. Quite right.
