Heard on the radio news flash this morning that Fortune magazine is report a 3% net profit by health insurance companies.
Don’t pay their greedy CEO’s and otrher exceutives so much and the profit could be higher.

So you are now accepting the fact that the insurance companies aren’t greedy? Glad to see you accepting some of the facts we have been presenting.

Can anyone who supports this healthcare reform tell me WHY HAS CONGRESS MADE SURE THAT THEY ARE EXEMPT FROM THESE REFORMS!!!

BTW, if it seems like I’m yelling out that question, then you have made an accurate assumption.

Please back this up with fact and not rhetoric. How much would their profits increase if you took out the CEO pay.
We’ve already bee through this topic with aspawloski4th in another thread.

He does not understand that CEO’s may be paid more than their percieved value, regardless of industry, and this is a symptom of a wider problem with C-level execs.

He also doesn’t understand that these two things lead to the same end:
  1. Lose your job because your company overpaid for a CEO, who lacked proper vision to provide goods/services people wanted.
  2. Chew through your money because of #1.
  3. End up homeless
And…
  1. Get sick, without (good enough) insurance
  2. Chew through your money because of #1.
  3. End up homeless

My point is that if you take the pay of these CEO’s and the 10 top level execs at these money-grubbin’ insurance companies out of the picture, their profit margins would skyrocket from 3.0% to a whoppin’ 3.1%.

Big Whoop.

That’s a toughie…hmmmmm…

Most Americans are too painfully stupid to see the more than obvious reason why. How they can be so pathetic makes me… :banghead: …many times over.

The thing is that that .1% is way more profit than some people think insurance companies are entitled to.

What I think is funny is that most people who think a company can just fire CEO’s or cut their pay in half have no idea what CEO’s even do, or what their actual value to a company is.

Companies have risen and fallen based purely on the competence of a CEO.

They usually come back at you with pithy comments like “but we need change! why do you hate sick people!”

…or “doing something is better than doing nothing!!!”

…or “I don’t care what you think because I met this person once who was sick and I felt bad for them so I’m willing to help them even if it means hurting you!”

or they’ll just completely sidestep the debate completely and say things like “oh yeah, well good luck getting healthcare after you bang your head like that,”

…or “most americans are too painfully stupid to understand that this healthcare bill is only going to hurt people who earn an income and people who already have health insurance-- and why should anyone care about them anyway!”

ugh, it doesn’t matter anyway, its only a matter of time before this new socialist utopia they’re building collapses under its own weight and stupidity- and then the rest of us can come out of hiding and get on with our lives.

lol

Apparently, Obama wants to get the bill through by Christmas Eve morning. They also apparently have the majority vote.

It’s painfully ironic that the bill will probably be passed the day before Christmas. It’s pretty much a mockery of Our Lord. Obama has prepared the world for the Coming of Christ  Kind of like Herod murdering all the first-born sons. Obama is just going to murder all babies with no exceptions.

After the bill is inevitably passed, Obama will go on his vacation to Hawaii. It’s almost laughable thinking about it. It’s as if he’s cramming for tests in his first semester of college, and after he accomplishes it, he’ll take off for some time and then return. He’s like, “Well, I got my first communist plans through successfully. Now I’ll take a vacation and start right up again when I get back.”

I’m hurting bad already, but I gotta go and :banghead::banghead::banghead: some more.

I wonder if he’ll just walk there?

Oh I do understand very well most CEO’s in most industries are over paid. But healthcare and something like Pepsi are 2 different animals. Overpay a healthcare CEO and people can die from lack of coverage, Overpay the Pepsi CEO and less Pepsi and Mountain Dew get sold, big deal. The healthcare scenario is of more consequence. Iv’e read posts here implying that I’m stupid. Well I think you guys don’t get it. You treat healthcare as if its just another porduct and or service with in our econemey on an equil plane to Doitos, and furcoats. It’s a human issue, we arenot dealing with a just another product, we are dealing with human beings. There is an obstinate stuborness here on the part of cnservatives that they want no change unless its the absolute perfect plan. By the time that ever happens I’ll be dead myself… Our’s is a system that one can only access if they are old, super poor, the correct minority or super rich. It leaves out many people. You have to be in one of the groups I mention or be lucky enough to find a charity which is lightyears from a guarentee. In health care a CEo making millions of dollars doesn’t serve a function. His makinging ooodles of bucks isn’t going to save any ones life or well being. If you want to make millions go into making widgets or hair spray. In healthcare all involved should make a fair living wage and the rest of the money go into making sure its availble to everyone.

I agree that healthcare isn’t a product.
Healthcare is a service industry.
People, called healthcare providers, invest their own money to obtain training and the necessary technology, and then people in need of healthcare go to healthcare providers and pay them money in exchange for the benefit of their training and technology.
As time goes on, healthcare providers’ income exceeds their operational expenses, this is called “profit.”
Earning a “profit” is a desirable because it empowers healthcare providers to get more training, develop better technology, which enables them to provide better service, and maintain financial security.

When you blurt out silly nonsense that implies capping healthcare provider income, what you’re really saying is that healthcare providers are providing a service that is less valuable than the service provided by people who make Pepsi.
What you’re also saying is that you don’t believe healthcare is worth paying for.
What you’re also saying is that you’d rather have the best and brightest members of our society working for Pepsi, rather than working for medical research companies, doing heart transplants, or maintaining your medical records. Why? Because you believe companies like Pepsi have a right to earn a profit, but people who save lives for a living don’t.

How dare you tell someone who not only goes to school until they’re 30 years old, but manages to stay at the top of their class throughout their education, who racks up hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, and who deals with the pressure of making life and death decisions every single day that less of a right to earn a large income than somebody who makes soda pop.

Same people who think insurance CEO’s can just be fired at will are the same one’s claiming at-will employment should be done away with when it comes to them.

I’ll simply say if you go into healthcare to get rich( as opposed to making a good living) then you are in it for the wrong reasons, and are no better than one going into ministry to get rich. I did say they should make a good living. Making 300,000 dollars a year is fine with me, but an insurance CEO making 20 million in a year is sickly obscene and a sin. By the same token the person first mentioned in the article I posted shouldn’t have to loose his home thus loosing his hamanity just because his geneitc make weak cerebral arerys in his brain. I find what he went through obscene and unforgivable. If I have to go homeless on account of an aneurysm I’d say just let me die. What makes his case sad is he had insurance and money saved, despite doing the wright things his life is still ruined.

I usually don’t do this sort of thing, nor am I implying what you said is true; I just see a bit of irony in it.

Just out of sheer curiousity, if you were offered the job as CEO of AETNA what salary would you ask for?

Likely a couple hundred thousand a year.
