Why am i bob instead of Chris?

What determines my frame of reference?

This is a bit tricky to explain. Why am i not you instead of me; and by that i mean why is my intellect/mind expressed through one particular brain as opposed to some other particular brain. What is the principle of that distinction?

Was it always true that my mind would be expressed through a particular brain excluding all others. In other-words, is their a necessary relationship between my particular brain and my mind.
 
as crazy as it sounds, I THINK I know what you mean. Or at least, have had similar thoughts.

I am Corie. Everything about me, all my thoughts, all my memories, are contained only within this one, solitairy body. Mary, Samantha or Tabitha are not privvy to being COrie, and I am not privvy to being them…

Because you are unique.

Perhaps you feel you may partly (or completely) be another because of (what could be described as) a kind of existential bleeding. A seepage toward this other. A giving of life to the other because you fell they need it; or you want to be them or have great concern for them.

Don’t worry about this. Though you may want to think further about this matter.

Were you to arrive at a completeness of self then you would be in the best possible position to assist another should they need help.
 
Our free will, which some atheists deny, takes us in different directions.

Our intellect which can understand any concept presented to it,
which would be impossible for an “intellect” that consisted only of a material brain,
but possible to the soul which the atheists also deny,
likewise take us in different directions.

Without free will and the soul’s intellect,
we would be no more than animals in a herd, like buffalo.
 
God Himself exists in eternal relationship. Love needs relationship. Relationship needs “the other”. We are separate so that we can love.

That would depend on whether or not the mind is what the brain does or not. For those that think it is the answer to this question might be “yes.”

Important though not entirely relevant is that the mind is ‘expressed through’ the brain. It operates the brain, but it is not in the metaphysical sense ‘expressed through’ it.

This question answers itself. Keep in mind that ‘me’ refers to ‘the being that is having this thought’. ‘Me’ means ‘the being with this frame of reference’.

It is largely depends on what you have experienced during your life. You would think that you are me if one has replace you in my position and you had my experiences instead of your experiences.
 
Perhaps a related question is why are you from ten years ago the same you as you are now? Your cells have all changed (although your dna is admittedly still the same). Your outlook is different from what it was ten years ago. What for that matter ensures continuity of the self from moment to moment? Am I the same me now that I was when I began typing this post?

Yes. Your question really involves the question of why your person is always expressed in a particular body. But often it seems that we now tend to equate our mind or our personhood mainly with our brain, which I think is an error.

One’s brain integrates the sensory knowledge of the outside world coming in from all the senses. For a human being, the mind—a faculty of the soul—can extract the materiality from that integrated knowledge, resulting in immaterial ideas and concepts by which we know reality.

The fact that body and soul are an integrated unit expressed as one person means that we can see ourselves as subject rather than just as object.

As Tomarin notes in post #12, all the material comprising our body may change completely over the course of the years, yet the person whom we are remains the same. We do not experience the “I” of 20 years ago as a different person than the “I” of today. Our personhood is continuous though our body is in flux.
